1915 H.B.S Utica made Buffalo Shield

Post by Treasure Trawler »

Ok guys I’m pretty sure 2 of these have had handle replacements and the one with the plastic broken handle has had a blade replacement. Can any of you confirm what I’m thinking? Is this the first Hunter Trapper pattern ever made? I can’t find any to compare to. Please post some pictures if you have them!

A very sweet trio, definitely made by Utica. I have a Western Scout made by Utica with a Buffalo shield.

The stag and wood are replacement handles. They came with bone and that plastic stag. They also came in two thicknesses, with heavier blade steel. The clip blade does look to either be a replacement or reshaped.

Thanks Roger, do you think these type knives were the first Jumbo Trappers? I know that they predate Remington Bullets but made by the same knife maker.

Do you mean Utica made the Remington bullet knives on contract for Remington ?

They pre date the Remington bullet. The same German makers who made the Buffalo Jumbo trapper evidently left Utica and went to Remington. Upon arrival they came up with the same jumbo trapper style with a bullet pattern shield. I’m wondering if these Buffalo Jumbo Trappers are the first of their kind? Also I’d like to see some pictures of other Jumbo Trappers with the Buffalo so I can compare mine.
