Scharade Walden NYUSA U.S.PAT. 2304601 Orange Handle
Re: Scharade Walden NYUSA U.S.PAT. 2304601 Orange Handle
Hey there, your knife is of 1950s vintage and was originally etched on the blade” CRAFTSMAN 9540” these were sold by SEARS. As for worth, it’s hard to say these days. The patent was Jacob Schrade improvement to the lock system and was designed to curtail blade bounce back when fired, some came with steel guards and bolsters , some with nickel, some with red handles and some with orange.

The Schrade Walden tang stamp started in the Spring of 1946, and switchblades were outlawed some time in 1958. They did not add "U.S.A." to the tang stamp for awhile, just N.Y. at first. We don't know exactly when that change took place. Some say maybe about 1953 but this is not really known. By the way, thanks, Wiseguy for some good information.

That patent date is 1942, but that has no bearing on the actual manufacture date, just the date the patent was issued by the patent office.
Nice knife. J.O'.
