Hi all,
Could anyone tell me what model Benchmade opens by sliding the scale?
Thanks

Re: Benchmade
Hi Stella, and to AAPK! Off the top of my head I can't think of a Benchmade "scale release" model, but Pro-Tech makes a few different ones, like the Mike "Whiskers" model. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Mark!

Re: Benchmade
Welcome to AAPK. I have not seen a Benchmade scale or handle release auto. Although they do make some spine release autos, that have a slide or lock on top of the spine of the knife that releases the blade. A lot of them are autos, and out the front blades. Similar to the Benchmade Precipice S30V AUTO OTF Knife with a 3.45" Spear Point Blade and has Aluminum Handles. Also the Benchmade 4850OM. You can see one here https://www.benchmade.com/4850-om.html or like the Benchmade Autocrat. https://www.benchmade.com/3400bk-2-autocrat.html
Hope this helps.

Re: Benchmade
The "Barry Wood" style of knife seems to open in a way similar to what the OP describes (I don't have one, so I can't really explain it--and the only one I see that I can afford is a Beretta, and that's rather expensive for what it is). Pacific Cutlery (which would later change its name to become what we know as Benchmade today some time in the 1980s) produced one:
Found a video of one on a web search.

Thanks everyone. A couple of years ago I bought and resold one. The only way that I found out was by a message asking if it still opened by sliding the scale side to side, on the blade end. I was shocked, surprised, and impressed.
There's always "that one" you wished you would have never sold.
