1920 Case XX Tested Era 6220 Transition knife?

Post by Buckeye_CRAZY »

Is this 6220(Measures 2 3/4”) a transition? Has anyone seen one before? As far as I can tell...it’s a Tested Era 6220 Green Bone, Flat blade LP (Scarce), with diamond shape closed C shield. Appears to possibly be a 1920s transition with the Oval Tested XX 1914-1920 tang stamp on secondary blade & Tested XX 1920-1940 tang stamp on master blade. I haven’t seen one like this, any info, thoughts or value would be greatly appreciated...THANK YOU!!!!!

Welcome to AAPK. The “Tested in a circle” stamp spans across both the Bradford and Tested eras but no one knows for sure how long into the Tested era it was used. If it had a third blade stamped Case Bradford it could conclusively be called a “transition” but since it doesn’t, I couldn’t say for sure more than it being from the early Tested era. Same with the diamond-shaped shield which was commonly used on smaller patterns well into the Tested era. As you have pointed out the knife has several appealing features. It’s a shame it has been so heavily buffed. Thanks for showing it.

Thanks for posting. eBay buyers love shiny, only way to find out what it's worth for sure is to list it. ::nod::

Thank you both for the replies! Happy to be here, amazing group of members. Purchased this peanut in an auction for $60 (as is, other than wiping off with cloth & applying oil) a little while back. I have since spent hours/days/weeks researching, with little to no luck! This little peanut has made me recall why I love collecting. I would have posted sooner, but where’s the fun in that ::woot:: I’m sure it will find its way to the bay soon, but it won’t be easy.

Welcome Buckeye, Here's a 6229-1/2, 2-1/2" Curved jack. While it has that cool diamond and oval shield, the tang stamps are fairly scratched off. Main is only slightly visible and secondary, if it had one, is gone. Can't say if it's a "transition". Yours is nice! ::handshake:: J.O'.
