Was this something they threw together in the 60s when they where sold. I have had it for 30 years and always wonderd about it.

I believe these were 1950s. I also don't think the model number was 1152. 1152 is a more modern model number, KA-BAR never put numbers on blades until bought out by Cole National which began that numbering system around 1969-70.They also put out some fixed blades around the 1950s marked UNION in block letters which like your knife not to be confused with early original Union Cut Co knives. In 1952 Union Cutlery Co changed it's name to KA-BAR Incorporated.
