Carving Set

Post by dcgm4 »

This carving set is my first foray into antique kitchen cutlery. It was made between 1884-1915 by A. F. Bannister & Co. of Newark, NJ. I'm really digging the red crown stag handles. :D

Thanks, Joe. I normally don't buy fixed blades, but I couldn't resist. I'm a little worried that kitchen cutlery might become yet another thing I collect. :lol:

I've got a plastic tub full of knives and other old kitchen accessories. A bunch of plated silver. Can't afford the real stuff. It's fun for me and not too expensive. The older stuff has an elegance I like.
Don't be shy. Again, I think your pieces are real nice.

Thanks, PigSticker. :)

Joe, I have noticed that kitchen cutlery isn't anywhere near as expensive as folding knives or hunting knives. I may just take your advice and go for it. ::nod::

Just came across this thread recently and decided to take some pictures of the 2 boxed Anton Wingen sets that I have had for a few years now. I didn't even realize there was an "In the Kitchen" topic, you learn something new every day. ::nod::

I fell in love with the stag handles. The large set has the infamous poultry shears.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

You are right to be worried;these addictions are a slippery slope. Let me help. Send me your set. Out of your sight it will be less of a worry.

Beautiful. ::tu::

A slippery slope indeed!
Here are some from my collection:
Seven different pairs of poultry shears.The one on the left is by Eloi Pernet with a leaf spring rather than a coil spring and beautiful stag scales.
A Buffalo Knife co bread knife in the original box dating to around 1900 or slightly before.Handle is stamped,"Made of Pure aluminum" when that metal was worth as much as gold.
A Case Tested slicer.
A set of Craftsman carvers(not sure of the maker)with black Bakelite handles.
A set of Gerber carvers with steak knives in original box.
A set of Landers,Frary,and Calrk Aetna works carvers with silver ferrules and pommels and beautiful matched stag handles.
A huge Forschner carver(12" blade)stamped Wenger Inox.Bought at a yard sale for $2.
3 sets of steak knives by the Japan Sword Co.

Nice, knife7. ::tu::

I meant to take some pictures of my Mom's Ontario Old Hickory set but forgot my camera the last time I visited. I have been keeping an eye out for a Case carving set with steak knives.

A few more:
A massive(10 in.plus)kitchen knife marked Englishtown Crafts with a raised area on the false edge presumably used as a spot to hammer through large cuts of meat.
A pair of Queen kitchen knives with Winterbottom bone scales bought at a yard sale for $4 for the pair.
A set of Robeson Shuredge carvers in an unusual wood box that could be hung on a wall or layed flat on a counter.Handles are laminated wood.
