Carving sets & table cutlery etc.............
Probably posted some of these before but couldn't find a thread so I decided to post them up.This forum for some reason doesn't get a whole lot of play as some others do.
My Sunday acquisition of the small Robeson Shuredge carving set prompted me to bring this thread to life.
This will probably take several posts to complete so please bear with me. The first two will be strictly carving sets. Then I will try and post some steak knife sets and then some regular table cutlery.
The first set is by the American Cutlery Co. and the stamp has a keystone with the date 1865 inside. Don't know if this has anything to do with Henry Sears & Sons who used the 1865 also. The handles are beautifully aged(dark)crown stag with a fancy silver cover on the pommel of each.
Next is a set stamped Craftsman Vanadium USA.Handles are black synthetic in a fluted pattern.Bot sure who made them for Sears but they are very nice.
Next are a couple of Gerber sets. One is just the carver and fork and the other has in addition a paring knife;6 steak knives. The large butcher knife I added.
The next set is my favorite: Landers;Frary;& Clark Aetna Works with gnarly stag handles capped by sterling silver pommels. I love to use this to carve the Thanksgiving turkey or ham.
Next is an exquisite Hibbard,Spencer,& Bartlett set with genuine mother of pearl handles that are really fiery. Unfortunately I didn't get the original box with them.
Next is a Japanese made carving set(missing the sharpening steel I think)that is made in the style of the South American knives complete with etching.Handles are silver plated.
Next is a more modern piece: A Kershaw Blade Trader that was given to me by a close friend(sadly now deceased).
The last two sets are made by Capri of Italy of stainless steel in a very modern style.

How about some more knives?
First up is just a steel and fork.Couldn't pass up that beautiful stag and they were only $2 for both!
Next is a pair of Queen carvers. No box but they were only $2 for the pair too!
Next is a couple of Robeson sets. The first is the small set I got Sunday. The second is a set I've had for awhile and they have very unusual laminated wood handles that fit snugly in the wooden wall rack. I think Charlie had posted a set of these awhile back.
Next is a set marked Royal Brand Cutlery with very unusually shaped horn handles.
Last is a small sized set marked John Russell Green River Works with simulated stag handles.
This about wraps it up for carvers. Next post(after dinner)will deal with steak knives and table cutlery. See ya then!

They can be very addictive as you will see coming up. Several of the steak knife sets I have(a couple have one knife missing)were made by Hakusui Inami whose company(the Japan Sword Company) turn out some of the finest swords ever made.It looks like they take the same care in making their everyday knives as they do their swords!
To start off:
A double set of eating utensils made in Argentina. The handles are(I believe)pewter with silver and gold plating.
Next is a barbeque set made in Argentina with similar handles.
The next three sets are by Hakusui Inami(the 1st set is missing 1 knife)with smooth aluminum handles and packed in cloth bags. The second set has hammered aluminum(or pewter)handles and is complete. The third set has smooth black handles.
Last up is a set of faux pearl handled steak knives from Sheffield with file worked backs.

Some more stuff:
Table cutlery disguised to look like a book.
A set of 6 table knives with ivoroid handles marked,"Corporate Mark Sheffield England"
A set of 3 Harrison Bros. & Howson steak knives.
A pair of JM(Jacques Mongin)steak knives with stag handles. Mongin is a high end French knife manufacturer.
A set of Keen Kutter table knives and forks. Strangely I bought the knives and forks many years ago and much later found the box they came in.
A set of 6 pearl handled small table knives(probably for butter)marked Northampton Cutlery Co.
A set of 6 steak knives by Town & Country with wood box.
A set of 8 knives & 6 forks with fancy resin handles marked Universal Stainless Steel(Not L.F.&.C.).Had to buy them;paid $3 for ALL of them!

Re: Carving sets & table cutlery etc.............
A couple miscellaneous pieces.
A couple of different sized "facon" and "verijero" knives from South America. Often called gaucho knives, these also serve as eating utensils.
A set of five unmarked one piece steak knives.Look a bit Scandanavian.
A set of 6 L.F.&C. table knives with ivoroid handles.
A set of 6 MAC Japan steak knives with rosewood handles. My everyday knives.
The last ones are a set of Sheffield steak knives that originally had celluloid handles that disintegrated. I bought some antler stag at a yard sale for 50 cents apiece and made the handles for them.My own personal knife is the one with the spur sticking out the left side. Makes a great thumb rest.

When in Rome.....
The carving knife and serving fork below, have been in my family since the late 1950's or early 60's. They are mine now, but I don't use them. They are stainless steel and made by a company called Carvel Hall.

Re: Carving sets & table cutlery etc.............
Figured I would resurrect this thread by posting my newest carving set find:a 3 piece set by Stanhome(Stanley Products)consisting of a fork and two knives with Bakelite handles still in the original box. Not bad for three bucks.

How about a full set of Kabar table knives…
You have to be trusted by the people that lie to you. So that when they turn their backs on you, You'll get the chance to put the knife in….
