I got this hatchet in May and the head was covered in paint and with rust so the maker's mark was a little hard to read, but I could make out Sweden, ::ds::

::paranoid:: I had a hunch from the blue paint before I picked it up that it was from Sweden ::hmm:: . Here are the before and after photos of that Swedish made hatchet after a little clean up, sharpening and wood stain on the handle.

Hults Bruk did use that color blue, I would search their history of marks. Nice find, but can not confirm maker.

WARDS special axe damage to the handle. Montgomery Wards stores. red and white handle.
Axe marked B B B hand made with some of the label left. Not sure who made it or sold it?

Not likely I will ever use them.

Not bad idea. Only for collecting, the axes that I use in my everyday life to chop wood for a grill or fireplace are hardly suitable.

I was thinking it might be an H.B. but I wasn't sure so I left a little of the blue paint on the head just be nostalgic and... ::hmm:: maybe help I.D. it later on.

After I got divorced, I decided I still need to have an old battle axe around, so I bought this one.

I assume that Buck has plastic over a metal handle? Not liking the looks of a crack at the head, hit something and not failing?

That is a gouge not a crack, so I am hoping it will continue to hold strong ::pray::

I'm thinking about a para-cord wrap for mine. Might help.

I have done para-cord wrap and then a resin/epoxy coating over the wrap to add strength. I have also made handles this way. The handles are functional and have held up well.

Cool stuff being posted here! ::nod:: ::tu:: :D

I finally got my little Ochsenkopf hatchet put together. Had to do a little whittling to the handle to make it fit. Here are some pictures of it. ::tu::

And then I painted it a little. ::tu:: :D
::hmm:: I might still stain the unpainted wood with a lighter colored wood stain. Not sure yet. ::hmm::
As far as the stamps go..., I painted over them & then wiped the paint back off with my finger tipps. Turned out pretty good. ::tu:: :D

Thanks for looking friends! ::handshake:: :D

Nothing to brag about in a while. Went to my first auction in a while yesterday. Got out bid on a very nice Plumb single, not a mark on the poll, and a equally nice Keen Cutter double. I did get this True Temper Kelly Works for $10, and a box lot with the no name double, a brush hook, the yellow snatch block, and a very rusty shingle hatchet, that I misplaced already, so it's not in the pic.

Nice haul ::nod:: the well was dry for me for the longest time but the past couple of weekends I found a few items of interest ::hmm::

:) a wards 2xbit and a Plumb single. Also a machete with a really bad re-handle job and some clippers.
