US M3 Utica Cutlery Kutmaster

Post by CheckSix »

This one is a fairly high grade example. Made in every way like an as issued M3. We figure this one was ready to ship as an as issued knife, but they partially ground off the cross finger guard stamp US over M3 over Utica, polished the blade and etched Kutmaster on it. Supplied it with a decent leather sheath and sold it to the public, right after the war had ended... late 1945. The ones that came later, had the whole one side of the finger cross guard cut off, in lieu of just grinding away the issue stamp. This one is an early Kutmaster converted example.

Dave that is a nice one.. ::tu::

It's a shame they ground the Utica off.

Is the pommel pinned on or peened and does it have the flaming bomb stamp on it ?

Hi Bob,
Pommel/tang is peened and then over stamped with a very fine sunburst pattern.... and yes, the flaming bomb is there. I'll take a picture in the morning and add it in here, so you can see it.

It is a nice one! It was ready to be issued and then got converted to Kutmaster.
