late war Fairbairn-Sykes 3rd Pattern Commando knife
late war Fairbairn-Sykes 3rd Pattern Commando knife
This one had me a bit stumped yesterday. It lacks marks. The cross guard is stamped ENGLAND, as is the top of the sheath. The bluing on the blade is very nice and the bevel cut we can tell was the machine cut variation. The grips were cast by 4 different manufacturers in England, this one is a number 4. I did some research and last night found out that the ones stamped like mine were late war Sheffield, never issued to the MOD and stamped England, to later be exported. It's a real 3rd pattern F-S Commando knife that never made it into combat.
