Нож сапера

Post by Eustace »

Considering the level of the forum, I was wondering what to introduce from my collection. I decided to show you knives, which you may not have seen. So my first suggestion - USSR army sapper knife (нож сапера)
The knife was sent to me by the former USSR, by a lady with the incredible name of Lyubov Sinyavskaya.
Somewhere I found it like a sapper / miner knife, in other forums I found it like a demolisher knife. Regular army knife part of set 75 СМП (Сумка минера-подрывника). Picture from the net:
смп.jpg
It is produced in two factories in the town of Vorsma - "Октябрь"(Octomber) and "Складные ножи"(folding knives) in the period 1975-85. My is from "Octomber" - the logo is the mythic bird Syrin, the bird with the head of a woman. Made from "Складные ножи" have logotypes C and H, and appear to be a bit rarer.
The knife arrived abundantly crushed, but after 30-40 years of sitting in a warehouse, the lubricant had hardened. The entire knife is metallic and oxidized.
Closed - 105 mm
Open - 180 mm
Blade - about 80 mm, thickness 2.5 mm
Steel - unknown instrumental.

The original sharpening is not very good, but the blade is with fine flat grind. It"s quite heavy for the size. The perception of socialist arms production - simplicity and strength. If you've ever seen Kalashnikov... :D

Thanks for posting those Eustace. Looks like a sturdy and functional utility knife. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge of these with us. ::handshake::

When the people fear their government, that is tyranny. When government fears the people, that is freedom.
