Good stuff gentleman! A few things I've done recently. A mountain man, a couple bear claws. And more sunflowers lol!

Re: Wood carving projects
Thanks! Going to polish them up and stain them black and use them on a necklace with some deer antler beads and a few wood carved beads. Mostly wanted to see if I could carve them after I seen some fake plastic ones for sale at a traditional archery shoot.

Sometimes for me the quick and simple are the most enjoyable. The piece I’m working on now I am kind of having to power through, just not feeling it.
Also you should look for some mahogany or black walnut for your claws. Dark walnut stain on either and polished up would look great.

Fish stick without the tarter sauce!
Couldn't get a full picture because of it not being flat. Pretty happy with it. Just having some fun with my Case seahorse whittler. And some other fish shapes I carved and made into keychains. Again with my Case pocket knife.

Nice work Doug they look great. The fish on the stick would look great on a walking stick. I’ve been toying with the idea of carving a lure but it’s on the never ending to-do list.

Dang Wade! That's awesome Buddy!C-WADE7 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 12:25 pm One of my latest projects, a Brook trout made of white pine with a articulating tail. These fish have a wide color spectrum(I guess by age or time of year) so paint was a challenge. The base of fractal burnt oak. The pull on the end of the string is a fish net made of alder and a piece of lime bag for the mesh.

Latest whittling project with movement. If you zoom you can see the wire struts that actuate the wings.

Both a carving wizard, and a painting wizard. Oh and your wizardry even extends into things mechanical. That is really cool!!

Re: Wood carving projects
Thanks! I have been enjoying making kinetic type pieces to put on display at the wife’s restaurant, people love playing with them. To date there is a mule, skunk, elephant, alligator, chicken, fish and now butterfly. I need to think of other animals to make that have distinctive movement that can be replicated. Dog and cat tails are too small to do so it needs to be a major movement.

Re: Wood carving projects
Latest project done. I have had the carving completed for 4-5 months, painted it last month and today drilled the hand for the walking stick and went in the yard and found a suitable branch for the walking stick.

Re: Wood carving projects
Latest project for a friend who collects chainsaw carved bears. It’s out of Rose of Sharon wood(which I think may be a shrub) which is soft and very white. The guy I made it for saw one I did at scout winter camp out of a piece of pine.

Thanks!
I started another yesterday morning for the guy that gave me the rose of Sharon wood and finished it up last night tinted linseed with stain and burned the hair lines on this. I like the lighter look better.
