The ones I make are mini decoys, that one is a "tiny decoy". That mallard turned out great!!

Re: Wood carving projects
Here is another kind of decoy that I have made. This one has a 3/4" board for the base and another 3/4" board for a vertical riser and a separate piece for the head (so the section would be an upside down T shape). Then hoops of wire are attached to the sides of the base board and over the riser and into holes on the other side of the base board. Then canvas is stretched over this and tacked to the wood. Spraying water on the stretched canvas will make it shrink tightly to the frame work. It is then painted in the conventional way, which further shrinks the canvas. The advantages of this method is that it used much less and smaller pieces of wood, as well as being lighter to carry out to the field in big quantities. I mounted this one on a base and made it into a lamp. It makes kind of an interesting looking goose decoy. This style was used in the early 1900s in parts of the country that did not have large trees to make full size solid body decoys.

I had to make another canvasback decoy from wire and canvas to replace the one I gave away. He has just taken up residence with the rest of the flock.

Re: Wood carving projects
I have had this Crosman 1377 air pistol for quite a few years, and never liked the stock plastic grips and forend that came with it. So I recently whipped up a set of walnut ones. Sure looks a lot better and feels better too.
The standard cheesy plastic ones. Finished walnut replacements The inletting for the forend is probably the trickiest part. It has to fit tightly and is pinned to the pump lever.

OC that is awesome!!!! That changed the entire look of the 1377. I have one and must admit that the plastic is not its strong point. Boy did that turn out beautiful. You always impress me with your work.

Very nice, OLDE CUTLER!
I found one of those Crosman air pistols at the dump many years ago. Took it back to the maintenance shop and put in a new O ring and pumped her up. The sights weren’t much but fun to mess with. We’d all go to jail today for stunts like that on school property.

Re: Wood carving projects
Thanks for the comments on the grips. I bought a couple of airguns a few years back when rimfire ammo was hard to get and expensive. They will make just as good a hole in paper targets as a 22lr will. The Crosman 1377 shoots better than the "jerk behind the trigger" can. Like the 10/22 Ruger, there is a lot of accessories available for the 1377. Mine still has the plastic breech, I would like to upgrade it to a steel breech and better sights.

OLDE CUTLER,
I dug around and found my old Crosman, it too is a model 1377. In script on the right side it says "American Classic" and there is a serial number on the left side. The frame appears to be made of some kind of pot metal, lots of the black finish is missing around the trigger guard. Yours appears to be much more refined than this refugee from the county dump 30 years ago. I'll have to clean it up and run a BB through it.
Treefarmer Just figured how to date this things, first 3 or 4 number indicate the month and year of mfg. Mine starts with 1079XXXXX, October, 1979.

It has been a little cooler here the past few days, so I got out into the garage and did some pen turning.
From left: Indian Rosewood, a pair of oak burl, 2 walnut with maple bands, Indian rosewood/maple, and 2 walnut/maple/zebra wood laminate. An assortment of one piece walnut
