MRW, you certainly have a fine hand. Those are great, especially the last one. Very good.

Re: wood burning
mrwatch, what I am wondering is what tool or implements do you use to accomplish your wonderful art. For that matter, what kind of wood?
Re: wood burning
Thanks, I use a Detail Master with a couple of different hand pieces. The Mastodon was when I got it used with a razor sharp or modified tip. It broke and I sent it in the be repaired. The plywood used for that one was a left over piece from the local Chris Craft boat factory. Given to me by a retiree. Sweet to use and wished he had more. The squirrel's leaves were hand colored with wet pastel pencils, which were kinda pricey. I also do charcoal and pencil drawing.

This thread hasn't been used in a while!
I've decided I want to try some wood burning on my knife displays I make so I bought a new burner.
It's from WEP Tools and I ordered this off of Amazon because with all the Christmas decorations and
such that Cheryl has ordered I got it with just my points, no cash... Now I need to get
busy and do some practicing.

Re: wood burning
Good deal, especially using the points to buy it! Let us know how well it works. I have a Nibsburner brand solid state burner, Colwood and Razetip seem to be the premium ones, but I’m not slburnind scenes or portraits, I use it to burn fur, hair or lines for clothing on my whittling projects. I did this bear with mine.

Re: wood burning
Thanks, I used burning only for the fur in this one, it’s a lot of little lines. I have another I made and used a gouge to make deep fur lines and highlighted them with the burner.
Re: wood burning
No laughing!
I finally got to practice and try the different tips to see exactly what each one did.
That darn thing has like 25 different ones. So this was my first attempt and I
used pages that were intended for kids to color. I'll practice some more and you
can laugh now....

Re: wood burning
Looking good. Play with the temp and you can get lines with out as much darkness and even shade.

Thank you, I'll give it a try...

Re: wood burning
I bought a bag of these 3 to 3 1/2" wood disks and decided to make 2022 Christmas tree ornaments for all of my kids and grandkids. Here are pictures of some of them. They are the front and then the backs. They're pretty amateur but hopefully I'll improve.

They look great, and will be a treasured addition to the tree I’m sure. Keep up the good work!dlr110 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 2:04 am I bought a bag of these 3 to 3 1/2" wood disks and decided to make 2022 Christmas tree ornaments for all of my kids and grandkids. They look good David.
Re: wood burning
Did this wood burning this evening and I've been working on the other decorations for Cheryl.
On the deer I'm thinking about a light stain and then some polyurethane.
Got a Santa wood burning I'm going to try tomorrow.

Re: wood burning
I know you are most likely bored with my new found hobby but this is the last of the Christmas wood burnings …..I think.
I put a stain on the deer and the Santa and then some polyurethane on all three of them. Won't win any prizes but they're not to bad for an old goat like me.

Re: wood burning
They look great David! I guess I missed the post before but I was going to recommend a golden oak or similar stain, it sets off the contrast of the burning nicely. Keep up the work and keep posting your projects for us, I know I enjoy them.

Re: wood burning
I just couldn't stay away from the wood burning projects.
Here are some more wood burning projects I've done, I just haven't put any stain or finish on them yet.
The first one is a serving tray for Cheryl.
The next one is a stained glass pattern.
The next one is a plaque for CCC knives.
The last one is a plaque for a John Wayne commemorative trapper I have.
I'm also doing a plaque for AAPK knives, I just haven't started it yet.

Re: wood burning
Great work!! The knife on the CCC looks great.
Re: wood burning
These are the latest I've done.
The Bear/Indian and the sailing ship I gave as gifts.
The last one is from a picture of Cheryl and I. I made a pencil drawing of it on the computer then transferred
it to the wood.
