Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Buck 180 Crosslock with single tanto blade info needed.

Post by Chayes »

I acquired this Buck on eBay several years ago for my EDC and have tried finding info on this particular knife. I haven't seen one again on any sellers sites and nothing from Buck discontinued knives. The date code indicates that it was manufactured in 1994 but that's all the information that I have. I emailed history@buck.com but will not receive an answer for several weeks. There are several Buck collectors on blades forum that collect 180's but there were none with the tanto blade. Do any experts or collectors here have any knowledge of this knife?

Kind of an odd tanto profile. Maybe the tip was broken and the blade re-profiled? Seen lots of Bucks with broken tips.

No, this is not a re-profile fron a broken tip. I've received a reply from the Buck historian and this particular Crosslock was only produced in 1999 and 2000 with less than 3000 produced. It is a Crosslock 180S Solitaire Tanto. The historian stated that the factory used older liners in newer models hence the liner being dated 1994. She also attached a complete history of the 180's if anyone would be interested. I don't think there will be much interest as the 180's don't seem to have much following. I've carried a Crosslock for 15+ years and have found them to be a very sturdy knife in spite of the plastic handles.
