Are there different variations of these? I see the combo knife/hatchet sets often, but they're not cheap. Can't say I've ever just seen the hatchet part by itself. Good luck to the Gary's. 🍀

The single pieces, either the knife or the hatchet by themselves (usually with the handle) come up for sale on eBay occasionally. You probably know already but since you didn’t specify, be aware there were two different types of locking mechanisms, so the pieces do not always fit the handle or visa versa. At first glance they may look the same but the earliest ones had a slightly shorter locking mechanism on both the knife and hatchet tangs, and those will only fit handles with a locking mechanism that does NOT have a patent number (or ruler) on the locking bar. So in other words if your handle has a locking bar with a patent number and ruler on it, you need the more common (newer) blade and hatchet.

The good news is the earlier mechanism wasn’t in production long, so they’re not real common.
