Nickel washers

Post by knfcollector »

Does anyone have a source for nickel silver washers that were sometimes used on shadow bolstered knives to pin the blade through or have any tips on making them? Thanks in advance.

I usually hook up a N/S rod to my lathe, drill a hole of the required size through it, then hook up a thin cutter and saw the washers off. It leaves a small burr which can be knocked off with no trouble. You can do this on a drill press too if you have a vise with a V cut in it to hold the rod perpendicular, or squeeze it between some V bocks that are held in a standard vise.

Thanks Eric. However I don’t know if I’m quite competent enough to do so. I do have a minilathe but the darn thing hasn’t worked for a while and I haven’t taken the time to troubleshoot.

Hi Kaleb, thanks for the offer. They are about 7mm or just over 1/4” in diameter. Any help would be appreciated.

Check out "theimperialshave.com, a straight razor repair site. they have a good selection of brass and stainless washers and collars. They might have some NS also.
