Those dog gone saw blades are just plain ole easy to break. I have a knife in the same shape as yours. Mine had been left to rust away and die, so I took it apart and cleaned everything as best I could..... LOTS of metal to work with on the main blade!
I am thinking I am just going to put mine back together as a one blade knife.

Oh well......

I've heard some people say they used reciprocating saw blades to rebuild these. I've been thinking about getting one for ages, and that was my plan, since I can't really afford one with the saw intact (though I have seen them go quite cheaply intact, however).

A lot of these were made by Colonial. Some issued as military (Navy pilot) survival knives in WWII. At least that is what I have read.

Well, I have been following the sale of these on eBay for several months now, and this thread forced me to pull the trigger on one today. Looks to be in pretty decent condition.

Just as an FYI. I found that Beretta made a magazine pouch for their model 92fs pistol. The pouch is black leather and is made like a Buck 110 sheath. Anyway it fits the survival knife like it was made for it. Incase anyone wants to edc the Giant Jack.

I love the part where the Navy returned some of the knives and they came back with a note..."We didn't make these"....

Perfect fit

the back it has belt slots but there is a second layer of leather so the belt doesn’t go through to the knife compartment.

you can see how the saw blade is long enough to stuck out just enough to easily open it

interesting that my GR Mich has different teeth than my Colonial

If it’s a replacement they did a real good job and it was done a long time ago. It really looks original. But I can’t be sure.

The two companies probably already had the tooling to cut saw teeth that met the gov spec. But slightly different teeth. The ones with the bail are super hard to find. The came with a green canvas sheath that had a slot for the bail to stick through. I thought that was kind of odd.

Just got mine, I see how a short saw blade would make it hard to open it.
