Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
The rare stainless steel GEC showed up. Loved the color and gnarly, uneven soup bone covers and the acorn bolsters. Also am getting partial to the 86 frame. Right size to me. Monkey see monkey do.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Read on another thread how some thought GEC is like beannie babies, like an all fluff and show fad or something. Others have said that for years now on different threads. Lamenting the prices they command. But they're the only game in town really, regular Case knives pale in quality control, Queen quit making knives, who else ya gonna turn to? And why do so many people turn to them and pay 5,6,7,8 hundred and more for them? Not really happening with Case knives or Queens. Even the several Tony Bose Collabs that I've had that cost me 375, 400 bucks are not any better if you ask me. I"ve had them. I sold most of them off because I liked GEC stuff way better. I like the steel better, the desings, the proportions, the styles, the bones and scale choices/colors, the fit and finish much better. I can't believe people think GEC is a fad. Or that next year, or the year after you will be able to get them for about retail and prices will come down. No evidence of this yet and it's been many years I've read this stuff. The truth is they built a better mouse trap and the knife world is beating a path to their door. GEC is an American working man's industry dream/success story/small business achievement that should be hearalded as what businesses should do to succeed against the odds. They are why Adam Smith is superior to Karl Marx. The American Dream. I like their knives better than some of my custom knives from makers who charge three times as much. These two are regular examples of why they blow Case and Queen away. These are incredibley smooth, tight, perfect transitions, fit and finish is a 10, light tight liners ands springs, flawless walk and talk, smooth open and close, perfect snap and action, great run up, dead centered, beautiful wood and bone, steel liners and pins on the Pony Jack, just fabulous smooth running machines. What's not to love. No fad here and like most fads that pass and become uncool, yet the opposite is true. The fan base is still growing in leaps and bounds, the demand climbing, the prices skyrocketing. It's not fluff. It's the best Americn traditional knife making company there is. It's who we are and what we are capable of as a country. It's a business and cultural awakening and re-birth. It's the greatest knife company there is in America to me. I buy their knives and use them because they are so cool and well done and beautiful and nobody else makes them like GEC and I love them. God bless GEC and all their employees and the state of PA for doing this for us. I will send my money there.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Ivoryman i agree with your above post. I too like my GEC's more than most of the Case/Bose collabs and more than some of my custom knives. The GEC knives are great patterns, built to perfection and they seem to have a 'personality' that is so appealing.
They are far too well made to be a 'fad' and the demand for them is not going to disappear. That said i think the current high prices on the secondary market might not be sustained but they will 'always' sell for more than the original price.

Managed to get one of these rare birds, from the dark side, another 86 which is always welcome. And a Barlow which is always good. And sawcut bone I am always a fan of. Used, but not used up, and far less dough than a new one. Great knife. Another Great from GEC.

How do you like the Falls Creek? Beautiful wharn and nice smaller size for edc and ease of carry. Nice score.
Horse trading for this Mustang 74. Hard to come by and they don't come cheap so swapped for one when I had the chance.

Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Thanks DM, appreciate it, glad you like them. Anymore it's hard to find so many of them. Take what I can get when I see it and pounce. Not much choice or think it over time. More like grab when you see one and quick or someone will beat you to it any minute. Was lucky to get a shot at a few and figured wouldn't have that chance again. Now or it's gone.

The 331211 with a bail and elephant ivory handles is i think the most exquisite pen knife that GEC has made. It is a very refined pattern.

Iman, I just now read your Nov. 17th statement praising GEC. You marshaled your facts and views exceptionally well I thought. The few GECs I have were acquired before my retirement when funds were more available. The quality is unrivaled and you are right to praise this American company for its achievements.
Re: Mail Call, Post Your New GECs.
Thanks Quick, for all the hacking and dissing on GEC I hear (read), I sometimes like to counter point a few examples of the opposite view. It's not GEC's fault that they have quickly built a huge following of fans who love the knives to the point of paying many hundreds of bucks for them. It's not their fault what the secondary market is paying for them. It's a good thing that a business can recently come into the market and command such respect, and even change the world of traditional knives. They rule the genre to me and I support them and watch them for everything they put out even if it's not my style. It's still cool and in demand more than the other guys. Best game in town to me and every one I recieved from them lately is flawless. That says it all to me. All I have for them is praise and goodwill.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 11:55 am Iman, I just now read your Nov. 17th statement praising GEC.
