For those of you (myself included) who like to follow eBay auctions albeit with absolutely no interest in purchasing a particular knife, here are a couple that I'm following on eBay with no intention of purchasing. Just curious to see the final selling prices.

Current Bid: $406.91; Time Remaining: 3 days 18 hrs
https://www.ebay.com/itm/255408534453?s ... 1438.l2649

Current bid: $281.00; Time Remaining: 3 days 17 hrs
https://www.ebay.com/itm/134032551512?s ... 1438.l2649

My sincere, humble apologies in advance to anyone who feels I stepped on their "bidding toes" by revealing this information prior to the end of the respective auctions. (Hint: bid more $$ ::nod:: )

I admire GEC knives but, increasingly, it seems to me the whole GEC universe has descended into madness.
I am probably mistaken. ::doh::

Last night I was looking at GEC barrows on ebay, just for fun.
No way would I ever pay these prices.
It is really unbelievable to me.

Here is a Grinling whittler that is already at 1000 with 6 days to go:https://www.ebay.com/itm/175335824883?h ... SwkNRivOqT.
I like whittlers but 1000 for a factory made whittler?

Every once in a while I get an inquiry asking if I have any Grinling whittlers to sell or trade, but I had no idea the demand was this strong on these. Wish I had a dozen of them.
I guess madness doesn’t have to make sense to the insane.

This Grinling Whittler being bid up to $1000 does not mean that all Grinlings are worth a lot of money. It means that 2 or more bidders have lost control of themselves. Most future Grinling auctions will end with a far lower price.
It is a lucky seller who gets this type of bidding.

Not to mention eBay getting more in fees and the IRS raking in more sales tax. ::tired::

Looks like there were some retractions on this one, the price is now at 650.00.

The Grinling Whittler sold for 767.
There is another one that ends tomorrow that is already at 500.

What are the rules regarding retracting a bid ?
To me, allowing retractions under anything but strict circumstances (i.e. bidder dies unexpectedly) messes up the fairness of the auction.
I am hoping someone here can explain 'bid retraction' to me.
thanks, kj

The second Grinling whittler went for 634. Just unbelievable.

I have no idea on the question about bid retractions Roland.

I was discussing this knife auction with a friend and told him about the retraction. He said he believes that the seller has to accept the retraction to make it happen but I don’t see an option on my selling page to do that. That said if a person admitted they typed 1000 instead of 100 early on and said I am not going to pay if I win, then maybe the seller could contact eBay and make it be taken off.

I followed that one too. I just don’t understand anyone paying over 500 for a used recent production knife. You could buy a great custom knife for that amount of money.

It's very easy for a bidder to retract a bid on ebay. They give you several choices to explain your retraction . One of the choices is that you made an error when typing your bid which is really just an excuse for I changed my mind and the seller has no say in accepting or declining the retraction..
