Re: GEC Auctions of Note
Here is one that I am watching. This one caught my eye within hours of it being listed. I was hoping to bid on this, but he price is already at 381 with 4 days left on the auction. This tiger eye acrylic is beautiful. Only 15 made. Why in the world didn’t GEC make hundreds of these?
Here is the auction link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224515151860?h ... SwCSlg20d1
At these prices I could take some of my 62’s and find acrylic like this and have Muskrat Man swap out the handles and I could make a tidy profit.

Jigged Brazilian cherry. Those scales are what attracted me to it. Kind of reminds me of the old wooden handle screwdrivers my granddad had.

Here is one that ends in a few hours. It’s a boys knife and it’s already at 413, just because is says “radio”? What am I missing on this one?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/255047059899
It does have a bottle opener for a second blade, could that be what makes it worth so much?

I don't know why a 151213 would go high but it does have steel liners.
Here is a stag 721110 that just sold for $810.

I paid $130.00 for this exact same model (488213) on 12/18/2018. This one just sold for $362.53.

Re: GEC Auctions of Note
That is high for a #48 pattern. For some reason it is not a popular pattern. But how can a Trapper not be popular among collectors of Traditional pattern knives ? People do seem to like the "Smooth White Bone" handles. If you use one you will find that the handle shows any dirt on it whereas a jigged bone handle would still look clean.

Instead of being in the knife collecting business, I should be in the knife selling business.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

To be more specific: the GEC knife selling business. I do not know of any other modern knives that regularly sell for way above original price.1967redrider wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 12:16 pm Instead of being in the knife collecting business, I should be in the knife selling business.

$447.00 for this Northwoods Signal Jack. That's a lot, to be sure, but I really expected this one to sell for more.

I’ve recently watched with satisfaction as several GEC auctions quietly ended with no bids. I thought maybe knife buyers were finally growing tired of the exorbitant prices sellers we’re trying to wrench out of their knives. Guess I was wrong...

And then there’s this guy! Not only is the knife heavily used, but he’s bastardized it! Is he for real??
He’s got zero transactions on eBay, this is his very first listing. Part of me thinks this is a prank.

If you know what they are and want it bad enough you’ll pay what I’m asking because I truly don’t even want to part with it.
I know what this is--an expensive knife with ugly modifications and no discerning GEC collector would even bother looking at a knife that has not only been someone's EDC for years, but was heavily modified. You'd have to pay me $500 to take it off your hands. Knives with these types of modifications are what sell as "parts or repair lots" of 5-10 knives for $50 or less. I know, as I have a Camillus USN EO someone similarly bastardized (spear into clip) that came to me that way--a lot of 5 for $25.
We have members here who turn inexpensive knives into works of art. We have a guy here who turned an expensive knife into a piece of junk. Presumably this guy saw the crazy GEC prices and thought he could offload this thing. Given his remarks and the stupid price, eBay should pull the listing.
Why would someone make such a modification? When I see the file work on the pen blade, and the (poorly) modified spear, methinks he tried to make a whittling knife. I would say, with these modifications, it may be worth a tenth of his insane asking price, but that's a stretch.
Re: GEC Auctions of Note
I also saw this one. If some moron buys this I think I will sell all of my GECs.Steamboat Willie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 5:04 pm And then there’s this guy! Not only is the knife heavily used, but he’s bastardized it! Is he for real??

Re: GEC Auctions of Note
There are quite a few good mint GEC knives on ebay for well under his $500 price for a 'wrecked' knife.

Still not done...just under two days still remaining on the auction and it's up over $800!!! How much higher will it go?
