The Boker 'Scout'
The Boker Scout type knife differs from the usual USA Scout type knives in both frame shape and in having 6 blades/tools instead of the more usual 4.
The Boker 'Scout' is an iconic knife that really symbolizes Boker, Germany and is very collectible. It comes with a few handle variations and blade choice arrangement might have changed through the years. I don't know this but hopefully if enough people post their Boker Scouts we will be able to compare vintage with recent examples.
Here is my stag Boker, 3 1/2", 192 stainless. Please post your Boker Scout.
I cannot remember when i obtained this knife. I assume it is a fairly recent knife. Is it possible to give a date range ?

Here are a couple of mine. Both from 2009.
Smoked oak on the left, and chestnut on the right. Bokers six blade camp knife is one of my favorites. I also have one in delrin I EDC.

Here's one from 2011, celebrating 25 years of BOKER USA in Denver, Colorado.
Not my knife or pic. This is from the BOKER USA webpage a few years ago.

Re: The Boker 'Scout'
Blue is the 2011 a German made knife ?
If so, did Boker USA also make a 6 blade Utility ? or a 4 blade Utility ?

Since the start in 1930, all of the 6 blade "humpback" styled Boker camper models have been made in Germany.kootenay joe wrote:Blue is the 2011 a German made knife ?

Most, but not all, of the 4 blade "Scout" type Boker camper models were made in the United States.

Still made. It's in the current Böker catalog. I have an older, well-used one somewhere - will see if I can find it.

QS, the Stag on yours is different from my knife and so is the etch. Both are Boker Germany. I wonder if these details can be used to give a date range for each ?
I feel like a newbie collector with the Bokers. I have all questions, and no answers.

I found it - my poor old flea-bit flea market find, warts and all. If you think it's bad now you should have seen it when I found it! But she's all there and all blades still walk and talk. In her glory days probably looked like the one in Blue's post above. Brown Delrin covers, I'm guessing from the 70's.

Nice knives guys. Boker most commonly referred to this pattern as the Sportsman's knife and occasionally called it the camper's knife. It's a very popular pattern that has been made for many years.
Though Boker never made an "official" Boy Scout's knife, they did make a scout knife pattern, as well as a junior scout.
Here are some Sportsmen knives Of mine.

A pocket knife is still an intimate personal possession of the individual who carries it and consequently deserves the best of materials, finish and workmanship in its production. (Quoted from Boker's 1928 cutlery catalog).

More of the same, except for the last one posted. It was part of Boker's Evergreen Series which you won't run across very often.

Re: The Boker 'Scout'
kj, The blade etch on your Scout was used from 1976 to 1988 per the Boker book. My stag appears to me to be rather typical European stag. My etch is too recent to have been included in the Book.

Just noticed that rangerbluedog has two Scouts with the same blade etch as mine. He identifies them as from 2009.

Thanks for the dates. I have not had time to read my Boker book for the last week or so.

Re: The Boker 'Scout'
kj, Boker is still using both the full "frosted" blade etch, the "Boker Manufaktur" etch, and NO etch! They seem to swap around. Makes it kind of difficult at times...
greedygulo, I knew that the Boker catalogs of the period had listed the 182 pattern as the 7593 pattern, but the two you show above are the first time I've seen both pattern numbers on the same knife.

Thank you Blue. Very helpful to know that you cannot use etch for dating.

Venice, That is a nice quality knife. Am very pleased with my own.
Re: The Boker 'Scout'
Agree. Very high quality. For me, too pretty to use. The stag is some of the nicest I have seen. Display only. Probably should think about letting go.Quick Steel wrote:Venice, That is a nice quality knife. Am very pleased with my own.

I understand. Mine is for display only also.
Re: The Boker 'Scout'
Thought I would add a contribution to this post. Here area few pics of my H. Boker & Co. I see in previous pics the pattern # is 182. Mine is a 7593. All blades have a tree stamp. Still in good shape with good snap all around. I always wondered if the markings on the bail were significant?

bkazz5, I like the bone. It has certainly held up well over the years.
