Can anyone identify the wood on 1988 240 Pen?

Post by keithw »

I've just bought a 240SS Boker pen, and it looks like a different wood than I've seen on other Bokers.
I say 1988 because the "Tree Brand Classic" etch has '1988' after it, so I'm assuming that was the year. ::shrug::

I'm curious if this was a special run or small batch with a different wood.

Any ideas or comments are appreciated.

Thanks!

I do not know what kind of wood it is but sure is beautiful. Looks like it is
very smooth and has a lot of color depth to it.

Beautiful knife.

Keith - I think it is Thuya wood. That is not based on my expertise as a woodologist, but on a Boker that I own that looks similar. Mine is a 1982 Limited Edition Whittler. I have the box it came in, and the caard inside identifies the wood as burled Thuya wood. The back side of mine has some burls like yours.

That is as very nice looking knife you have. It looks like it is on the same frame as my whittler. Mine is about 3 3/8" long, closed.

Dinadan is right. I looked at photos of other Boker's online in Thuya wood and they do appear to match. This wood is native to the Mediterranean region.

Thanks guys,

Thuya wood makes sense. I'm really looking forward to getting it. It's supposedly 3" closed.

Mel that whittler is a beauty! I love that shield.
