My 1st #38, Jumbo One Blade
Saw this one advertised last week and after research and an opinion from one of our knowledgeable Queen experts and a bit of negotiations, it was on its' way to LA. I can honestly say this one didn't disappoint me at all! Some of the research shows a #38 to be a Swell Center Pen knife, 3" long with 2 blades. The Queen 1950 catalog on page 32 shows the #38 as a Jumbo One Blade pattern. This is the 1st one I've owned. Not many showing up on ebay and there is one in the AAPK stores. Here she is:

What a beautiful knife that is with all the old time accessories. Saber ground blade and matchstrike, swell center.
And that Winterbottom bone! Congratulations TF.

Thank y’all for the kind words! These old Queens with real Winterbottom bone really ring my bell.

Really nice pick up Philip. That knife deserves a nice belt pouch. They call that pattern the Coke Bottle.
BTW.....If you look at the 1956 catalog, you'll see that the 38 was dropped and Queen introduced the 44. Almost the same knife but without the match strike pull and curved. The swell on the spring side is also gone.
Queen did reintroduce the pattern 38 in 1959 but as a 2 blade knife, as you have stated (see catalog 1959, page 26)
Here's a pic of the 44 to compare with yours. The Queen History website doesn't have a pic of the 1st issue pattern 38. I wonder why?
Looks like your pattern 38 was only available 1950-55.

Re: My 1st #38, Jumbo One Blade
Bruno, I've carried my old #39 in my right front pocket for many years, I wouldn't know how to use a belt pouch other than for my 9mm.
I have one #44, it is not nearly as nice as the one you are showing. The one I have was a gift from a neighbor, she said it was here dad's knife and her son wasn't interested in it. She also gave me a #39 that had belonged to her uncle, it is identical to the #39 I've used as a deer knife for years both have imitation Winterbottom handles.
I suppose I'm correct in assuming the 39 and the 44 are the same frame. If they are, then that would make sense as to why they dropped the #38. Queen would still offer a big single blade folder but only have to deal with the one frame, maybe.
Thank you for your help.
