Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

I'd have jumped on that, too, if I'd seen it. Nice score! ::tu::

Added another to my Camillus 72 Clone family yesterday. It is a Ulster 63. Has the same frame and blade combination as the Camillus 72. The handles on this one I call Strawberry because of the color & jig pattern, and may be delrin or whatever composite material Ulster used. It has nickle silver bolsters, oval shield, and brass liners. The blades have some slight wear and scratches, but still have luster, are full and have strong snap. The coping blade seems to be the only one that has had a little abuse on the end and edge. The tang stamp on the Clip Blade is ULSTER over USA. All I've done is flush it with some WD40, wipe her down, blow with compressed air, oiled the joints and gave it a good sharpening on all blades.

Thank you Skip. This is my second Ulster with this handle color, although the other has way more ware. I also have a Craftsman 9494 with in this color but is a bit darker.

This 1047 arrived this week. For 35 bucks I just had to get it. It’s in good shape and looks to be lightly used. It will make a nice addition to my EDC rotation 8)

Good grab Randy. I would have sucked that one up like a Hoover, with no second thoughts. It's an older one, witnessed by the blade grind.

A couple of years ago before Roland got sick he showed this knife here. Said it was one of the best examples he had ever seen. I texted him with the request that if he ever wanted to sell it I wanted it. He said that for now he wanted to keep it. Every time he offered a knife for sale I would text him and ask about this one. Finally, he said yes and we worked out a price. He asked that I not post it as he didn't want to offend anyone else that might have wanted it. That was back in September of 2021. So here is the official post and noted from Roland.

Doglegg that 863 is a beauty. Actually I used to own it and Roland and I were constantly trading knives so when he was able to snag a stag 43 GEC I offered up that 863 as trade bait knowing how fond of schrade knives he was and we consumated another of many trades together. It makes me happy to know it gave him so much happiness to own it for a while and now to know another one of my favorite Aapker's has it. Here is the stag 43 I got for it and a twin sister that i have as well.

Greg., thanks for filling in the blanks. That's the 2nd trifecta you, me and Roland were involved in. Thank you and thanks for the story. And Roland did love the 863.
