Camillus WWII and before!
Re: Camillus WWII and before!
Bringing this old thread back up to daylight . Dale ( Orvet ) was kind enough to post a link of it over in knife discussion area while talking about a particular knife . Dale ,went thru it this afternoon and Wow! Some of the nicest Cutlery this old boy has seen . And the info and reading everyone’s posts has been great . Some of you guys are still around and some not ,that’s life right .
Excellent read here if you haven’t gone thru the pages. And the knives . Anyway it’s been storming and blowing for a couple days so am hiding out in the shop and doing some oiling on some of the older stuff here and drooling ( not on my knives) over the posts here . So here’s a few pics .
Let’s see them . It’s been awhile . If you have any info to add that’s coool or just show off some Holiday spirit and have fun with a few pics .
Merry Christmas To All .

Ray, wondering if you still have this knife ? Or if you can remember if the stamp is Serif or Sans Serif and the blade combination . Not many of these around . This one has the Sta Sharp stamp and is 2 and 3/4 inches long closed . Of the 11 or 12 have seen over the years yours is the first have seen in that color . Also note the 2 piece file .Haven’t seen too many of these on a Camillus .knife7knut wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2010 8:14 pm Got a bunch to post but don't have time at the moment.Thought I'd put this one out as it is one of the more unusual ones I have.Coffin shaped handle;tip bolsters, straight shield;very unusual cel scales and a 3 line stamp.
If anyone else has one , could they please post it . Thank you ,stay warm .

Not sure what you mean by sans serif: where in the stamp would the serif be or not be?

Re: Camillus WWII and before!
Ray ,sorry for the confusion will try to clarify. Camillus had both Serif and Sans Serif stamps . The 2 Jacks in first pic show Both. The next pic with the Rope knife / can opener is Sans Serif type stamp. Some say without ( or no ) feet is Sans Serif . Camillus had some with a combination of both ,like the bone Jack . the Ebony Jack from approximately same period has Serif only stamped blades . Hope that helps ,think I got it right !knife7knut wrote: ↑Mon Dec 26, 2022 12:25 amStill have it. If you could it would be nice to see what you have on that 3 line stamp .

You have posted some really nice knives Ripster. That swing guard knife is one I have chased for a while but never got. Never seen a coin holder like that either.

Here are pics of both stamps. My.''Fred Flintstone Flip Fone'' doesn't take closeups so Ishot them through a lighted magnifier.

Re: Camillus WWII and before!
Here is nice and well used Camillus pen that I got a few weekends back.
I brought the tip of the spine down on both blades to get the edge in the well.
This three inch pen was made from 1915-1918 as per Goins book.
Serif in both blade stamps.
It will still cut quite nicely.

Nice pen knife there Joe. The steel in that old stuff sure holds a great cutting edge . Don’t see that stamp much anymore!FRJ wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 4:27 pm Here is nice and well used Camillus pen that I got a few weekends back.

Thank you, JP.
I stumbled onto this knife at a flea market. I'm so glad to have this stamp. I don't believe I have any 3 line Camillus'.
And the knife is a honey. The previous owner must have thought so too.

Re: Camillus WWII and before!
A friend of mine gave me this old Camillus last month. I believe this is the only four line tang stamp I have with an original Factory Edge.

Dale, that is a beautiful piece. Really like the scales. I've only seen a couple in the past but the knives and handles were pretty ratty. Yours looks great with great color. Very nice.

Dale, I like that knife! Did your friend pass on any history of the knife?

Re: Camillus WWII and before!
Seemed like the best place to post this one. It is a four line EZ Open Jack with bone handle from the WWII time frame. The seller says it was issued to U S Navy sailors, but I can't prove that. It isn't perfectly mint, but pretty darn nice.

Re: Camillus WWII and before!
Wonderful old knife. There were about a million made in WW2 and issued to the Navy That one is in great shape. Congrats.
