Re: The Other Brands
I added this one to my collection today. A three inch single blade easy open Jack made by Syracuse Knife Company. The tang stamp has the arched "Syracuse" over Straight line Knife Company, over Syracuse N.Y. From my research this stamp was from 1935-1940, and was produced by Camillus. This one has some wear, but the blade is tight, has great snap and solid half stop.

That's a nice score! I've been gravitating more to Camillus and their "other" brands as of late. That's a cool knife!Papa Bones wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 1:46 am I added this one to my collection today. A three inch single blade easy open Jack made by Syracuse Knife Company. Thanks Phil. I am really fond of the Camillus brands and like yourself, have been looking more for some of their other brands.phil0175 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 4:05 pmThat's a nice score! Re: The Other Brands
I bought a pocket knife from a seller. The tracking said it was delivered today. A pocket knife WAS delivered today from that particular seller. It was the wrong pocket knife. I received this SYRACUSE KNIFE CO.,USA, 3 blade stockman instead of the pocket knife that I bought. I contacted the seller and he said that he realized his mistake and that the pocket knife that I bought has been sent. He told me to go ahead and keep this knife as well. So, the only SYRACUSE KNIFE CO. pocket knife that I own, came to me by accident. I gave it a cleaning. I took a few pictures and here it is.

Thought I’d add one I picked up. Camillus made Remington 9501 jumbo stockman. I was fortunate enough to get the box and paperwork with it as well. Have a good one everyone.

Re: The Other Brands
Thank you sir!!!! The scales got my attention as well. My father was big into Remington shotguns and knives. I remember seeing the Camillus and Remington knives on display when I was a kid. I never really acquired his taste in shotguns and rifles, but always liked the Remington knives. Hope everyone has had a restful weekend!New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 2:33 pmPhil, that is a gorgeous lking knife. Those handles.....

Vit, I have a Cold Steel Twistmaster which emulates the Opinel. It's a beast. (I didn't know it was made by Camillus) And a Cold Steel Kudu which emulates the Okapi. Originally made in Germany, now made in South Africa. (Don't know for sure but don't think this was made by Camillus)

Re: The Other Brands
It was Cold Steel's own design.jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 3:16 pm Vit, I have a Cold Steel Twistmaster which emulates the Opinel. It's a beast. (I didn't know it was made by Camillus)
The first run productions were manufactured by Ontario factory, but very unsuccessfully. Mostly rejects made.
Then Lynn Thompson turned to Camillus. He ask to use his tooling and bring it back.
Handle mold was poor, and lockrings provided us varied enormously. Camillus make fixtures & gauges to "adjust" & measure their important details. Also payed molding companies to run the tools.
With such suffering, the Twistmaster series appeared.
P.S. Lynn Thompson liked to give them to his hunting guides on his Safaris in Africa to replace their Opinels .

Good evening everyone, hope all is well with my fellow knife buddies. Picked this old war horse up recently. She’s seen better days, but I took a chance on her. All in all, not bad for an honest old knife.

The Twistmaster is one of the few "Opinel types" that is plastic handle/carbon steel blade. But, the only problem is that they are big. I EDC the Opinel #6, #7, and #9 (well, used to). The 12, my biggest, which I impulse bought at the local cutlery store a couple years ago, is 6" long closed. I don't get what Cold Steel's long-term obsession with "go big or go home" is all about.
I think the Kudu is made in Taiwan or China or somewhere like that. I will say this, it's better than a real Okapi. Okapis are some of the roughest knives you can buy. But they're tough.
