camillus #14 whittler

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Well done Trav! Blade replacement based on stamping and the fact the pull is not a long one? I don't have hardly any reference material for older Camillus. Nice to see those old pictures. I'm seeing more of the upswept clip blade TJ mentioned yesterday, on some of those knives. Also the same frame three blade true whittler in the bottom right corner. Adding that third blade upped the price...

travman and thawk-thanks for your input on this knife!-the #238 on the catalog page sure looks like what i've got-if it's 1928 vintage, looks like to me it would be the 4 line stamp, though, instead of the 3 line stamp this one has. another thing that's kinda wierd is that the oval shield is not in a recess, it's just pinned to the bone-the bone in that area is pretty flat, so it's not noticeable, i had the knife for a long time before i realized it wasn't in a recess.

Here's another 2-blade "72" pattern. Union Cutlery Co. Olean, NY. Both blades open from same end. Same closed length as the "72" but may be a tad slimmer.

I have not seen this knife before. Has anyone else seen one like it?
If so please post pictures and sharing information you have on this pattern.

I like the frame of this knife and feel of it in my hand. Since I have so many #72s already, it would be fun to find one of these as well. Mike said he thinks these were built on the same frame as the #72.

Camillus did make a #14 from the 1940s up until at least the late 1970s. It is listed as 3-3/8 inch serpentine jack. But the pictures shown in the catalog show it to be a standard jackknife with both blades on the same end, not on opposite ends.

Mike, I can't tell too well from the pictures, are these bone handles? Could this knife possibly be pre-World War II?
I should have included my pics with this post. This is the Camillus half whittler I recently fished out of the bay.

I believe it may even be pre 1940. It is not listed in the 1946 or 1948 Camillus Catalogs.

This thread confuses me. It's titled "camillus #14 whittler" but the 14 isn't a whittler and there's only one post with a catalog cut of a #14 and not a solid knife to be seen.

How about some real #14's

My first Camillus 14, bought 10-18-13
Camillus 14 Jack '60-'76 -- Labeled.JPG
My 4th Camillus 14. My first with bone handles.
Camillus 14 - Bone - Labeled.JPG
#5 with Rough Brown handles.
Camillus_#14_Rough_Brown -number three.jpg
#7 Aren't those bone handles just gorgeous.
Camillus 14 #7 Bone -1948 - 1953.JPG
#10 a gift from Dimitri. Much appreciated.
DSC09073.JPG
#15 Bone - short line and very pocket worn.
15th Camillus 14 Short Line - Bone Handles Labeled.JPG
#16 is one I bought last year for $6.10 + shipping
Camillus 14 ~ Early 70's - Indian Stag Delrin Handles - Labeled.JPG
I seldom mention purchase price but y'all need to know what a bargain these knives are. The most I've paid for one was $21,50 (May 11 2016). The least was $3,27 & $2,37 shipping (4-9-19).
