camillus #72

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

I found this by accident and just bought this Camillus 72. I'm taking a break from purchasing 72s to pursue the variations and some other types of knives that I collect. But this one jumped out and screamed BUY ME, so I did. It ISN'T a first generation, it's a long line 72. Except for some cosmetic issues on the blades, this knife appears to be in fantastic condition. I'll clean it up when I receive it and post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These pictures, the two best of the group, are the seller's.

Thank you Floyd. ::tu:: Not bad for $12, not including shipping & government punishment fee.

Considering those Brownstag® handles, it's from the mid-'50s to the mid-'60s. Looks to be in very good condition for it's age. For the price, it's a great acquisition.

I received this Camillus 72 yesterday. I cleaned the blades a little. The "before" pictures are the last two pictures on the previous page. These pictures are mine.

I tried to ignore it, but this powerful, invisible force kept bringing me back to the auction. ::shrug::
I want to see your new clone when you get a chance, but in the "variation" topic. ::tu::

Wouldn't it be cool if somehow the 2020 AAPK Club knife was a Camillus 72?

Yes sir. 2013 331313 and it is a real sweetheart. I stopped at Bryan's house and picked mine up on our way down home for Thanksgiving. Too impatient. Couldn't wait.

Tommy, it's probably just caused by my lack of picture taking skills.

Saw this one listed on ebay the other day at a $16.00 but it now price. I PM Jerry if he thought it was indeed a 72 clone. He texted back that it was an early contract knife for Sears, even sent an attachment from the Kastor list of contract knives by Camillus. So although it doesn't say Camillus or 72 it is not a clone as Camillus did make it. I appreciate his expertise. So for me a real find. A first model Sears made by Camillus. It has been well used but so have I. Thanks for looking and thank you Jerry for the initial bug for 72's and for your expertise and time in answering my questions.
