camillus #72

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

My latest # 72. This tang stamp was used by Camillus from 1989 up until its bankruptcy in 2007. Was Camillus still using bone after 89' ::hmm:: ? Or had they gone to using only derlin (Polyoxymethylene (POM)? ::hmm::

Just mostly Delrin. Some in the 90's had black bone handles. Seems there were some special series also with bone handles. But I'm no expert.

THANKS D.L. ::handshake:: When I picked it up and bought it this week, I thought at first it was bone, :) ... then I looked a little closer and figured it wasn't :x Oh well... ::tounge:: it is going to be a great EDC. The blades are tight. The main blade is more worn than I would like, but has some life left to it and the other blades are in great shape. Ready for "5-PC" A.K.A. "Fifth Pocke Carry"

Hey guys I know it’s been awhile since I checked in so I can’t let the old year close without doing so. I’ve been busy working but I have managed to keep up with reading the posts here in the Camillus forum. I picked up a few 72’s back in November that I never posted . Figured I should share them for New Years.

First is limited edition Flying Ducks. Came in collectors box with paperwork.

I also picked up a yellow jacket and the hard to find #5 version of the 72.

And this 1st generation 72. The pile side bone is okay. It has a small pin crack at one end. The mark side has a large chunk missing. All the blades are tight and snappy. However I noticed that the pen blade has a half stop. I checked my collection of 1st generation knives to see if the others had a half stop on the pen blade and while the coping blades all did ,none of them had a half stop on the pen blade. Is this an anomaly? Or another generation? Anyone else have one with the half stop on the pen blade?

This one found a new home in Wisconsin today. My first 72, and I must say I like it alot! Very classy looking knife with a really unique 3 blade set up. I appreciate there not being half stops, all the blades open nice and smooth.
