camillus #72

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

I should be getting this Camillus 72 "short-line" some time next week. Looks ok, could be better, but when a "short-line" shows up, you just have to act. The seller thought the "72" tang stamp meant the year. I DID NOT correct him. I'll give it a once over when I receive it and post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These pictures are the seller's.

Picked up a couple of 72 clones recently. A Bear boy scout 72 and a Craftsman 9494, also a 72 and 863 just cause the price was right.

Floyd, is that Bear any good. The one I have isn't worth the powder it would take to blow it to hades. BAD workmanship.

Whoa David, very good pick up. ::nod:: ::nod:: ::tu:: ::tu::
Jerry, the Bear is certainly not the quality of the Camillus or Schrade or Ulster. If it was the only knife I had it would serve but not the quality of the other ones. ::shrug::

You guys know how much I hate and despise Camillus 72s and the variations. But I have to give credit where credit is due.

Got this one in today. Besides someone’s bad attempt at removing the rust spots, it’s in excellent condition. May have been very lightly used but I believe it has not been sharpened. My 2nd 72 and I’m so happily addicted to them! ::groove::

If you're a Camillus 72 hound and don't have one of the Yellow-Jaket's with the Yellow-Jaket shield yet, there's one on eBay right now. These don't come up for auction very often so it's worth your consideration.

It's a month long auction. Maybe someone will see this who wants one and doesn't have one. ::shrug:: That one is as hard to find as the three 1990's bone handle editions.

Floyd, in my opinion, that plain black bone edition is the most difficult to acquire.

Jerry...I now ::tu:: have you to blame, for owning this knife, ::facepalm::
I've picked up about ten different 72 versions. Based on your assessment, I offered the guy $50 (he had it listed at $65) and he took it. I'd never looked at this knife before...but this one appears unused, with some minor speckling on the blades. Can't say the picture did a whole lot for me...but in hand, this is a very good looking knife, the bee is very crisp and clear.
