It has a painted plastic (stagged) handle. I've never seen this before, but I'm not sure if it's homework .
The paint is very durable (although rubbed in places from time), applied neatly and evenly. It is impossible to remove this without damaging the handle.

Good looking knife Vit. Always good to find a short line. Looks to be in fine condition and blades look great. I wouldn't worry about the handles. Gives it a little character.

Picked this one up today from a small roadside trade-day down the highway from me. Picked it out of a $10 discount box. It is a Camillus Deluxe pattern 83 Pony Stock. The tang stamp is a no line Camillus over New York over USA. It is 2-5/8" closed, has synthetic handles without a shield, nickle silver bolsters, and nickle silver milled liners. Originally it would have had a blade etch of "Camillus Delux" on the clip blade but this one is worn off. I believe this one was made after 1955 as that year and before the Camillus Deluxe was listed with bone handles. 57 on they were listed as having the brown stag which was synthetic. The Clip blade has slight wobble but very good snap. The coping blade & pen blade have no wobble, and hard snap. I had to do some cleaning on it, and now need to do some sharpening. Still, will be a good small edc to carry in your watch pocket. I believe at 2-5/8", this may be the smallest handled Camillus I have.

Received a couple of pre-60 Camillus today. 1st a Camillus 101 Timber Scribe or Race Knife. It has the Four Line Camillus Tang Stamp which put's it in the 1940's. This one has no use. The Scribe tool is spotted and does have some tiny pitting, but if you look at the metal and the cutting edge of the tool, it has no wear. No looseness, when open, a solid half stop, and very strong closing snap. You really need to make sure all fingers are not near the cutout for the tool. Don't believe me, look at my index finger in the photo. The wood Cocobolo handles are in good shape, but do have some darkening around the pins. Overall, I am very pleased with it.

Next is a Camillus Elephant Toe, or Sun Fish, which ever you want to call it. It has the Four Line Camillus tang stamp on the pile side tang of the smaller blade, and has the Sword Brand Crossed Swords tang stamp on the mark side of the large blade, which also has the double nail nics. The scales are wood, but may have some shellac. At first I thought they were synthetic, but under a lighted loop, you can see the fibrous lines, and the difference in brown at the bolster ends. But it really looks like it has either been coated with shellac as there is also a clear layer on top and has some tiny crystalline looking cracks or lines at the edges. The blades are tight, no wobble and have strong snap. But they have been rusted and have left some pitting and rust pattern staining on the blades. It has been cleaned and buffed on the blades at sometime in it's life. The previous owner stated it was like that when he purchased it many years ago. Overall I am pleased with it. They seem to be harder to come by especially in decent shape. I plan on doing the warm min oil bath, on these, and flush. Then I may see if I can get some fruit patina on the blades.

Thank you Dan. Most of the ones I've ever seen were with the Sword Brand tang stamp which was during the 1940's, although I'm sure Camillus made them before then also. But I have not been able to find any information of catalogs before the 40's. I do know that from 1949 on there were no elephant toes listed in them. If anyone else knows of the History of this pattern with Camillus, I would appreciate the info.

This 4 1/4" cigar jack has the 4 line stamp on the main and 3 line on the secondary, the faint etch is for "Old Honesty" tobacco for which I downloaded an old advertising pic with the slogan "always reliable"
