My New Camillus EDC

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

My New Camillus EDC

Post by orvet »

I set up my table at the OKCA mini show this last Saturday.
I got a bunch of really cool knives, but this one I believe will be a keeper.
I EDCed it today… I love it! Good snap, a beautiful double swedge and a long pull, what's not to like?
Did I mention the awesome bone handles?

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

I am really more of a fixed blade guy, but isn't that a Schrade trapper frame somebody has put an ill fitting Camillus blade into?

That was my first thought when I seen it. That frame has Schrade all over it.

That is a handsome knife Dale! Love the bone, shield, blade, handle shape, regardless Schrade, Camillus, or a combination thereof, I'm sure it will make for a great carry. ::tu::

I'll toss my hat in with Frankenknife guys....nice looking blade, surprised to read it works well, looks like liner is a bit squished, Definitely doesn't appear to fit that frame well. Use it!

When I saw it and picked it up I expected it to be a Schrade. I was surprised to see the Camillus name. I was two or three tables away from my table, trying to buy a knife and watch my table for customers as well, since I was doing the show alone. About that time someone came to my table and I paid for the knife and hurried back to my table to help a customer.
I had already missed out on another deal because I went to help a customer at my table and when I came back all of $10 zipper cases that he was selling for $2 each were gone. I should've bought a dozen of them!
So when it came to the Camillus/Schrade I knew I liked the knife and it wasn't being particular. The price was pretty reasonable too.

When I get a little time I need to research it. It might be I found the perfect handle for a Schrade Cut Co. trapper I have with a broken bone handle.

I would bet money that is a schrade frame, it's either cut co or early walden. The fancy shield and rat tail bolsters did not last past the 50's on their respective trapper patterns.

But Tommy, it wasn't a right Camillus! ::shrug::

I did finally get the time and I put the 294 blades in the handles. They fit like they were made for it, probably because they were, and it looks great. I did save the Camillus blade and trust me, when I find the right handle for it, the Camillus blade will go back into a frame because it was a too good to leave laying around!

Now sir, don't y'all think this looks better with the right blades in a right handles with the right jigging? ::poke::

Tommy, I think as big a Camillus lover as you are even you will have to admit that that is one fine looking knife! ::handshake::
