The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

I searched for a thread on Stainless Cutlery Co. before I started this new thread, but I couldn't find it with the search function. Maybe it is under another title?
Greg, those are amazing! I love the vivid color of that first knife you posted and that last one with the arrow shield!! All of the ones you posted are spectacular but those two are my favorites!
Thanks for linking to the 'other' thread and for posting the pictures above. As we discussed in 'other' thread, Camillus made the "Stainless" knives to be top line knives. Interesting that most collectors were not aware of these knives until the last 5 or so years.
Merging would be good for future searches.

Okay, I believe I have successfully merged the two threads on Stainless Cutlery Co. They now appear to be under the title of the second thread that I started and they are located here in the Camillus Cutlery forum. It all has to do with the order in which I chose the topics, I think. Actually I've only merged topics once or twice before and it's been a long time.
I'm surprised it went so well!
Greg, I'm sorry but you'll have to set a new bookmark because the topic is no longer in the General Forum but in the Camillus Forum.

Great job Dale! I believe I can handle a new bookmark easily enough.

It is in the "Camillus Cutlery Collector's Forum", just like this new thread.
Now we have a twofer.
I have been a regular ebay 'searcher' since 2007. I did pick up a couple of Stainless Cutlery knives about 10 years ago but it is only in last 1-2 years that they show up on ebay a bit more frequently. And as Greg has said, most are unused. Where have they been hiding ? and where are the used examples ?
The usual answer would be that they have been in collections however most collectors have been unaware of this brand until recently.
Another 'Mystery of the Knife World'.

Another one from the Vault KJ. This one looks like no human hands were involved in the making. A perfect example of why Camillus survived the Great Depression while Companies like New York Knife Co. perished. Camillus managed to stay on top of modernization of machinary and technique. Also Check out the price of these in 1926 per doz compared to the price per doz of the "Saturday Evening Specials" which were well made Utica's for the most part.
Beautiful, a slice of history in perfect condition. But where are the used Stainless Cutlery knives ? Maybe many of these knives were bought as gifts and when grandpa saw his gift said "Stainless" he smiled, said Thank You, and then put the knife in a drawer because he would only use good old carbon steel blades ?

I think you're on to something there, Mr.KJ. I also remember reading guys laughed at anything BUT pocket knives made with brass liners. Now Grandpa quietly puts it in a drawer if it's not made of Titanium and G-10.
I was given this knife when I was a kid years ago. The blades where like this when I recieved it. Is there anyone that knows where to get replacement blades?
Stainless Cutlery Company was a brand name used by Camillus. I don't know the exact dates, I would have to look them up but they were discontinued I believed long before Camillus went out of business in 2007.
I think the Stainless Cutlery brand was prior to World War II.
Your best source for a replacement blade would be to find a donor knife, type of the same model number that has good blades they can be used to replace the ones in your old knife.
I assume you want to replace the blades so you can use the knife.
There are many other knives available, including some Stainless brands, that you may want to use for pocket carry.
That nice one you have there could remain as a remembrance. Just a thought.
I hope you find what you want.
Here's a used one, but it does not have the "Stainless Sportsman" etch on the blade. I'm assuming it is an early 90's make. I just recently acquired it and discovered this old thread.

Thanks Vit and Joe for the insight. Wow...prior to WWII? Now that would be something. This knife has seen some use, for the "Stainless" word on the fish medallion has been worn off, but you can still make out the word "steel". I thought it was a 1991 model due to the 1991 advertisement on page 6 of this thread. And again, I'm assuming the scales are Indian Stag...or some kind of stag. The snap is wicked...don't want to get my fingers in the way when closing it.

Posted these on the Camillus site yesterday. Advised to show them here.
GSMITH: I have that same bone pen. It's a beauty! Great jigging and nearly mint.
The smaller "box" pen has red/green and red/gold transitioning celluloid scales.
I think these knives and all the ones shown in this thread are rather high quality, in the style of the SWORD line. Nice thread !
