Camillus In The Movies?

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Camillus In The Movies?

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

I watched Jaws (1975) last night for the, who knows how many times. When Chief Brody goes into the hardware store to get supplies to make "Beach Closed" signs, there is a knife display case filled with knives at the checkout counter. I never paid any attention to it before, but for some reason the logo stuck out. I tried everything I could do to make the picture clearer, but had no success. I thought it might be Camillus, but never saw that shaped logo before. If anyone knows what knife company display that is, please let me know. The pictures are Chief Brody just coming into the store, Brody nearing the case, a close-up of the display case when Brody is blocking the reflection/glare and the Camillus logo I got confused with. This was off a plain DVD & regular TV. Maybe someone has the film on a different format that would make it clearer. You can click a picture to enlarge it, but it doesn't really help. ::shrug::

Update: I just posted another picture I took off the internet. It shows about the last half of the knife company marquee or sign on the display case.

I saw the exact same thing two days ago when I watched that movie. I wonder how many others noticed that too.

I find myself doing that more and more when I watch a movie. I look for knife displays in hardware stores, sporting goods shops, etc. I try to determine what kind of knive(s) a character is carrying and or using. It adds a new dimension to my film watching and enjoyment. I was already doing it with guns, now I have a new, equally pleasant distraction. ::tu::

This is pretty cool stuff. You let this stuff just go right by until you collect.
I talked to Tony Bose a few years ago and he told me that he made the knife that James Spader is using in the balcony of the Congress in the Daniel Day Lewis Abraham Lincoln movie, not sure of the name I think it was just “Lincoln”, it was based on the book “A Team Of Rivals”, which is a fantastic book and the movie was incredible.
He said that knife in the movie was the second one he made, the director didn’t like the first one. Anytime I see that movie I try to get a look at that knife. Now you all have something else to look for.

Visit this site and you'll see one of my favorite movie knives. The pocket knife Anthony Hopkins has in the survival movie, "The Edge." Here is the link: https://blademag.com/tv-and-movie-knive ... edge-movie

Interesting old post Skip .
In the one photo Vit posted there’s some knives hanging above the cash registers as well . Just noticed those . Sure don’t see hardware stores like that now !
Any more old movies with knives come to mind ?
