Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

My first CAMILLUS 72 variation for the year 2021 and it is a hard to find one. In fact, I had no idea that it even existed.
It is a ROYAL BRAND USA, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. Goins says 1914-1954.
It needed a little cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

No, you did good not passing it up. If it looks like a good candidate for a 72 clone, I would jump on it also.

I've heard of Royal Brand Cutlery. I've seen Royal Brand from the U.S. with many variations of the tang stamp. Some like yours, some with Royal Brand Cut Co., some with a very condensed or squished grouping of the letters, and some with parts of the words missing depending on blade tang size. Royal Brand Cutlery Co. U.S.A. also made serving knives and many of them had either a Diamond shaped arrangement of the logo and some with a Crown logo. My grandparents had a set of serving & steak knives made by them. They had the diamond shaped arrangement of the logo with the crown. Not sure when they got them. But this is the first one I've seen in a model 72 clone.

Well....this one finally arrived today. Me finding this one is a testament to the old saying of being in the right place at the right time. Or Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while. I actually snagged this off ebay. I have a saved search that I will enter, then after looking through I will refresh before I finish. This one popped up as a buy it now after the refresh. I am proud to add to my family of 72 Clones a Imperial swell center whittler with Boy Scouts Shield and Black scales. The scales do have some slight shrinkage, but are tight. It has the Boy Scouts Shield that seems to be inset or molded into the handles. Quite different from the way I've seen the other Boy Scout Shields in Camillus. The Main. and secondary Clip blades have great snap, and the coping blade has good snap, but not as strong as the others. No wobble, and does need a good oil bath. The blades do have some of the factory luster, but have many spiders, spots and stains. The tang stamp has "Imperial PROV. U.S.A. I do believe this one was neglected and lay in a drawer, box or closet for a long time. I have only oiled the joints, I plan on doing a light cleaning and a warm oil bath.

Man that's a nice one Smitty! I'm kind of an Imperial fan. Although I don't really know exactly why. Just like them for some reason. Add the 72 pattern, a long pull and a BSA shield and I'm all eyes! Congrats on the nice score! ::handshake:: ::nod::

Finally adding this one to my 72 Clone family after a long delay due to the postal service. Actually purchased this back in December.

An Olsen OK Swell center whittler, pattern 107. It has the Olsen OK brass oval shield, and the Tang stamp on the main clip blade is Olsen OK, H.C., M.I. U.S.A 107. The blades have some of the original luster, but do have stains, spotting, spiders, with a some scratches. I have oiled and exercised the blades with Tuff Glide, and The Secondary Clip blade & Coping Blade have excellant snap now. The Main Clip blade has decent snap, but is not smooth. I am getting a lot of black sediment out of the wells after exercising the blades. I plan on giving it a warm oil bath and working the blades some more to see if it improves. The Delrin handles are tight with no cracks, with very little shrinkage
