Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Camillus 72 Clones

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

I got my first non-Camillus, Camillus 72 clone today, it's an Ulster 63. The first 6 pictures are the "before" pics. The last 4 pictures are the "after" pics. I am postponing doing anything about the missing shield for now. It turned out to be in pretty good overall condition. I'm happy with it. Now to continue the search. :D

Nice knife.
Now you will have to find a early one with the model number on the other side. :)

And an orange one. So one with the pattern on the pile side and an orange one which should have the pattern # on the pile side. And while you're at it, look for an orange Sears Craftsman 9494.

Just found and purchased this knife, it "should" be in the mail on Monday. I know it's a Camillus 72 clone, but not which company made it.

Here is the title in the ad for the knife: "Vintage Hollinger Fremont OH, 2 Blade Serpentine Pattern Pocket Knife."
Here is the seller's description of the knife: "Original pocket knife, good condition."

The seller assured me that the pictures are of the "correct" knife, but didn't change the title.
The following picture is the seller's. If you want to view all the pictures, click here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=46672&start=1455#p746087
I will post MY pictures here when I receive the knife and "clean" it up a bit.
Meanwhile.........any guesses? Ulster perhaps? ::shrug::

As I posted in the other thread, Ulster 63 or Sears 9494 (which is an Ulster 63 with those orange handles). I'm surprised there's no identifying marks on the knife. Maybe SFO made for some hardware chain. ::shrug:: I've never seen an orange one that wasn't made by Ulster.

There are identifying marks. I can make out a tang stamp, I just can't make out what it says. I didn't want to seem to anxious to the seller and possibly have the price raised, so I didn't ask many questions. In fact I only asked one, about the title and the pictures. I love mystery knives! We'll see in a few days (hopefully). ::facepalm:: ::hmm:: ::shrug::

I picked it up at the post office today. I gave it a gentle cleaning. It is NOT an Ulster 63 or a Sears 9494.
It IS a Hollinger Fremont, another 72 variation! ::tu:: ::tu::
I am very ::ds:: Here are the pictures.

New one to me too. Just when you think you've seen them all...................

Looks to me like it was made by either Schrade or Ulster. Their jigging is so much alike it's hard for me to tell the difference. Probably a SFO. It's Hollinger out of Fremont Ohio.

I received this knife today and I consider it a Camillus 72 "variation." A Camillus 72Y, Yello-Jaket with advertising etching.

Tis indeed one of the variants. SFO. I'm not enthusiastic about the advertisers but I don't kick 'em out of the pile.

I agree completely, but if I wanted to, I could easily get rid of the advertising.
