Help ID this stockman from the 1930s/40s

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Help ID this stockman from the 1930s/40s

Post by Mlajoie »

Hello friends, I came across this old Camillus stockman with crimped center liner. I know it’s from the 30s or 40s from the 4-line tang stamp, but that’s about it. Can anyone help me with some more information on it and hopefully a ballpark value?

This knife was made by Camillus Cutlery Co., likely before WW II. Someone here will be able to give you the Camillus pattern number (might be "67").
Handles might be a celluloid which can be unstable and off gas which corrodes steel & brass.
It is in decent shape but shows quite a bit of use & sharpening.
Many collectors do not want vintage knives with synthetic handles, so this plus the condition = rather low value, maybe $35-$40.
Welcome to AAPK.
I hope others also post so that you get more than just one opinion.

::welcome:: to AAPK! The best way to get an estimate on what a knife is worth is to do a Completed Listings search on eBay-

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?redirec ... 1&_ipg=200

Book values are always inflated, some more so than others. Usually if someone is selling a knife, he/she is going to do so on eBay anyway. Plus there are some eBay tricks to ensure you get the best price possible, like ending a listing after 7:00 Friday-Sunday night. I'm sure there's other tricks of the trade as well.

Hope this helps!

BTW that is called a "gimped" liner, not "crimped". No big deal, just thought you might like to know. ::handshake:: There is such a thing as " crimped" bolsters though. You can do a search here on AAPK for both terms to find examples of both gimped liners and crimped bolsters.

And also, welcome to AAPK!

That is a very nice stockman! Camillus made some of the very best IMHO.
