72 Camillus WITHOUT shield

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

72 Camillus WITHOUT shield

Post by Ripster »

Hey folks , have a question? In the last few weeks there’s been casual discussion about 72s without Shield.
At first was looking at short lines ,then started looking at long lines and found that the ones I have and have looked at on line all have shields .
Jerry D has shown one that he lost to porch pirates . Will do more digging , does anyone know if there was a method to Camillus madness regarding shields . Was this a cheaper version ? The one I just received without shield has the composite handles as well, and almost seems like a economical version . Maybe there is no reason ,either way, makes for interesting research and Conversation. Could you show em if you have em ,from any stamp era .
Thank everyone !

Out of the 37, CAMILLUS 72's that I have,
only one has no shield (by design). It too
is a short-line and has black handles. It
is already posted in the "72" thread.

My guess is that 72 without shield could be an early version of BSA1047... ::shrug::

Well Vit ,that would explain a few ? s
Thank you for posting that here . To me it’s more interesting to research a particular knife ,or anything of interest, than sometimes owning the item .
Again your Contributions here are greatly appreciated Sir . ::tu::

You can tell if it's a Boy Scout 1047. They don't have a pattern # stamped on the pile side of the blade.
Love that bone.

Thanks Smitty. I'm infatuated with it. If I remember correctly, I got it from Ozzie Marie at the Janesville, WI show a bunch of years ago.
