Scrims of the Great American Outdoors

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Some interesting information there, Cal. So Schrade made the scrim knives from 1976 to 1996.

I've used that chart a lot. I believe Michael Little put that together. So I hate to make this one correction, but the image on the SC503 for 1986 is actually a Walleye and not a Steelhead. It drove me nuts for a while trying to find a Steelhead to add to my collection until I took a closer look at the Walleye knife and figured out it was the one for '86. (Can't read the date in this fuzzy picture.) Bummer. I wanted a Steelhead to go with my trout collection of SC503s. I settled for the SC503 spawning Salmon in this 1996 set instead. :D

Mustanger, that's a nice collection.Do you collect any scrimshaw other than from Schrade? If so, some photos of that would be appreciated.

Probably the best thing to do if you want to see Schrade Scrimshaw knives is to go to this link for a thread on them on another forum. Pictures, history and discussion about them. Many of the knives I have are posted there either by me or someone else. I don't think these that I have are over there though, so I'll post them here. BTW, that Walleye knife is not mine, nor do I own one. Just shown for example.
