What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

We all seem to have our personal favorites but everyone agrees those are some fine old knives. I love the muskrat. Top-notch group!

Gorgeous, and looks like that blade has never been sharpened. Wow that etch is clear. Great one, congrats.

I found another unused schrade walden 861 but this one has yellow celluloid handles. It should be an 861Y, but doesn’t have a pattern stamp and 861Y doesn’t show up in the catalogs. A very pleasing find. It has all the qualities of a nice 1950’s schrade.

I agree, when not out gassing celluloid is a beautiful handle material.

Thanks Jeff, I agree. Celluloid is more vibrant than any other synthetic I’ve seen. I like it quite a bit.

Another 1950’s 861 for the collection. Nice knife, not quite minty but close. It has been lightly cleaned, edges are factory. Great bones, nice and snappy like these usually are.
