Ducks Unlimited ordered many fine Schrade knives. This thread is full of great examples. Here's a new entry to spark some fresh interest in these knives.

Small knives have there usefulness. Good for opening packages, which is what I do the most often in the city. If someone had given me that Greenwing 3OT when I was 10 it would have blown my mind. At that age, I had a birch-handled Rapala fillet and a beat-up old stockman. They both got lots of use.


Last month I picked up a much bigger Ducks Unlimited knife. It's the 1991 hallmarked 14DU CA fixed blade. Ducks Unlimited ordered hallmarked fixed blades most years (every?) once Schrade started this practice. The following list was originally compiled by codger elsewhere. There were a couple inaccuracies which I have corrected after studying examples of these knives found online.

1985 = A

1986 = B (498DU w/ "Ducks Unlimited" text small etch - 3,500 ordered)

1987 = C (498DU w/ "Ducks Unlimited" text small etch - 3,500 ordered)

1988 = D (162DU - 2,500 ordered, reordered 1,060 U.S., 500 CA.)

1989 = E (165DU w/ carbon blade, black delrin handle - 5,000 ordered, 498DU w/ ducks in flight large etch - 600 ordered)

1990 = F (13DU - 3,000 ordered, 172DU - 750 ordered)

1991 = G (PH2DU - 3,000 ordered, 14DU CA. - 650 ordered)

1992 = H

1993 = I

1994 = J

1995 = K

1996 = L

1997 = M (171DU - 3,000 ordered) DU 60th anniv. etch, LTD tang, 60th logo stamp on plain sheath

1998 = N (SDU165 - ??? ) UH handles

1999 = O (SDUPH2 - ??? ) fibron handles, "birds in flight" etch,

2000 = P (DU153 - 3,000 ordered) blued carbon blade, gold etch, black Delrin handle
(DU160 - 3,500 ordered) UH Handles, UH shape shield, DU etch (may not be Hallmarked)
(SDU1LTD - 500) Serialized 000-500, PH2 burnt stag handles, Baron gold etch, canvas back decoy display

I like the "Guide's Choice" pattern and Canadian content but the reason this knife became a must-have is because I own the 1991 hallmark stamp itself. Sheath is very attractive.

Pic comparing 14DU CA with one of the very first 144UH knives from 1978. I believe the 14DU CA run was about the last time Schrade made this pattern. Note that the 14DU CA does not have notches cut into the spine for your thumb to catch on.

Great knives, Bladecollectorr! I have a few DUs around the place here. I bought a clampack with a 160 and a 12UH? not too long ago. I have numerous examples of the 160 pattern so this clampack is still sealed.

Nice set! I am familiar with it but it confounds me as well. I'm hoping you can answer a couple questions I have.

Is the knife stamped with a hallmark on the brass guard? If so, what letter (year) is it? I was wondering if this was another "G" stamped knife.

What are the differences between the 160OT "Mountain Lion" and the 165OT "Woodsman"? Flat grind vs sabre grind? I've never owned either pattern so I have nothing to go by.

If this clampack knife has a hallmark, it is on the pile side and I would have to split open the clampack, which I am reluctant to do. In the bottom right corner of the plastic packaging it reads #7110669 DU21GSCP. More later on the differences in blades of 165 and 160 pattern fixed blade knives. The 165s are sabre-ground, heavier blades with a deeper belly and less of a curve to the trailing point feature.

Thanks Cal. That's the SDU165 from 1998 (see above list).

The hallmark on your clampacked knife may be found on the front or rear of the guard which could possibly be seen through the plastic.

Here are some other examples (I don't own) so you know where Schrade might have hidden it.

My 97 OT Trapper Duck . UH style covers. Ducks unlimited shield and liner lock on the saw blade. Very reflective bolsters as my pic shows.

My favorite Duck by far. Sheath and stamp are not original to the knife. Fits perfect though. I collect Uncle Henry Schrades but this 97OT with a he saw cut derlin and saw blade is a great pattern. Tweezers and pick are super cool. I think this is the only Old Timer I own.

Here is an SC505 of my dad's, he thinks he bought it mid 1960s. Is there a way to date it to a certain year because of the scrimshaw pattern used on it?

Your stockman with the mallards was a 1982 issue.
