Schrade Walden USA Red Bone

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Yes Jerry...she's a boney beauty. ::paranoid::

Perhaps these alternate shots will lend a different perspective...

This thread should have a bump, I think. I very much like the red tinted ''wavy'' jig bone schrade walden used in the later bone years and have seen a number of examples. It's not terribly difficult to find these knives.

I have been fortunate enough to find some very nice examples, in addition to some used ones. For now here's an 881 and 787.

orvet wrote: Sat Jan 07, 2012 4:30 pm I agree Hal, the 1950s Schrade bone is very beautiful. Too bad they didn't make more of it.
A few years ago I got two or three sets of those bone handles that had not been installed on knives. I put a set on an 8OT with just a single blade last year. When I hafted the knife, I took the bone jigging down farther than Schrade Walden usually did on their knives, simply because I was so amazed at the color of the bone! It's gorgeous stuff!

Thia is how the knife finished out.
I see that this is an older post but man those handles are breathtaking! ::tu:: Some of the prettiest I've ever seen! ::tu:: :D
Nice work Dale! ::handshake::

Thanks guys.

Here's another one. The bone is a little darker but the red tint is still in there. Crocus finish on the main like the old schrades. The previous two I posted also have the same finish.

RED BONE, Schrade made these Red Bone Sets in the mid 1980's.
In my humble opinion, these knives are some of the best knives I have in my collection... Ken

This 1961 Schrade Saw-cut-bone Old Timer 8OT, took many years to find.

Schrade was thinking of using Blue Bone before they closed down, I love the 2004 Rope-cut bone.
