Hi Cal, The first 8 OT is listed in the 1960 price list. Photos of the very early knives had that shield.tongueriver wrote:I wanted to show this one (probably again?) because of some unusual characteristics. I believe it to be one of the very first 8OTs ever made. It has milled liners and the shield appears to be a prototypical shield that never was adopted in the final decision to run the bone 8OTs, which are generally assumed to be confined to the 1959-1961 period.Sanders bone 8 OT001.jpgSanders bone 8 OT002.jpgSanders bone 8 OT003.jpgSanders bone 8 OT004.jpgSanders bone 8 OT005.jpg
Hawk has a mint early 8 OT in the original box, with all the bling [early shield]
A New Zealand collector, sold an early Black 8 OT, with a larger shield [in brass]
Most of the 2 OT's and some of the very early 8 OT's, had the milled liners.
My 8 OT is a later version, shown in the wrong box.
The Black very early 8 OT, looks to have the same size shield, as the First Buck Stockman [made by Schrade in 1966]..Ken
