MODIFIED SCHRADES

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

I was trying to get the blade seated in the antler and this happened. All the way to bone.

If this version had made it into the catalogs it would have been a 2209-1/2W. The knife started out as a completely worn down 2204. The two new blades include a sheepfoot and pen and the plastic handles were replaced with whale tooth. Filework on the springs and liners complete the makeover.

Thanks ::tu:: - this project took a long time to come together and in the end it exceeded my expectations. Kaleb (muskratman) knocked this one out of the park.

The handles were the hard part. Finding legal, documented whale teeth for sale took a while (and cost a fortune).

6OT Lockback

A while back Schradenut gifted me this knife in is 'as new' condition except for a crack in the Delrin handle near the lanyard hole.
(Schrade sure didn't leave a lot of room there)

I slimmed down the Bolster added some Walnut handles that taper out from front to back and instead of a lanyard hole I added a bail
just for something different.
Pretty happy with the result

Here is a 51OT I modified a few months ago.

For reference..... Here is a normal 51OT...

Here is Mikie's version of the 51OT with (I think) buckeye covers.....

It was a fun little project.

Nicely done Mike
I assume new liners (?) and you have hidden the pivot pin - given it a whole new look - I like it

Actually... everything is from the 51OT....
I just reshaped everything, liners and blade, to be what I wanted it to look like.

Ummmmm.... I think the pivot pin is there just dark maybe...??
(Here is the other side....)
