Kj..it’s old...difficult to be real precise on these old eyes...but if I were guessing I’d say late 50’s. Ray or Joe might could be more definitive.

I think it would be best to store it separate from other knives just in case it is celluloid and off gasses. It happened to mine quickly, from fine to a real mess in days.

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
I have never seen one of the butterfly type Schlieper knives but since Schlieper cutlery was marketed in Maylasia and surrounding areas it kind of makes sense they would produce a knife style common to the area. I see the stamping includes Remscheid which is the location where most of the Schlieper and Eye Brand common tools were manufactured. Interesting piece and a great addition to a Schlieper collection.

Hello Schlieper fans,
I know I may be rushing this because it's "In the Mail" and the sellers pictures are not that great but can anyone tell me approximately how old this "56" is & a possible value. It was listed as "new" & I'm curious if it was a fair price or not.
When I asked the seller how old it was the answer was "Oh it's old! It was stored for many years.". LOL! I'm also curious as to the handle material If anyone would like to take a guess. Bone or Synthetic?
Thanks for your time & thanks for looking!
Take care & stay safe,
Tom

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
Just an opinion from an old Schlieper collector, but this Congress pattern is not an “old” knife. “Old” is a relative term and can be interpreted in various ways, but the type of nail pull and the jig pattern on the handles suggests a more current Schlieper pattern. Can’t tell from the photos whether the handle material is bone or synthetic. Most 56 patterns over the years were bone. My guess as to value would be maybe around $45 - $50. Need some other Schlieper folks to weigh-in.

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
I have no idea as to value but Joe nailed it about not being an 'old' knife. That type of pull is always a tip off to a more modern Eye.

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
Ok, Thanks for the Info Joe & Ray. I found a couple more of these & it appears as if the handles on these are synthetic. I got it for €37 or about $40 shipped so I did ok.
Other knives like this are going for between $65 & $71 shipped here so for US prices I did ok & for Germany prices I did real good. That's why I jumped on it without much thought the other day. It wouldn't have been around very long. Just wish that it had bone handles. Oh well, can't win em all.
Thanks again guys!

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
So, my new Schlieper just showed up 10 min. ago. I'm still in question as to the type of handles it has.
The Jigged sides look so exactly jigged it makes me believe they are synthetic. On the other hand, the edges are of a lighter color and to my greenhorn eyes, they give me a little hope that they might really be bone. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this uncertainty. I'd like to know one way or the other what they are. My tablet doesn't take very good pictures so I hope that these will work. If not, let me know & I'll try it again.
Thanks in advanced for your help!
YF,
Tom

Its been a year since anyone has posted in this thread. I would guess TPK your knife has doubled in value now. Here is a 3 eye canoe I picked up.

A 5 1/4 inch whittler. The yellow handle one is 3 1/4 inch.

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
I don't know if this pocket knife should be posted here or not, but I didn't want to create a new thread for it. I very recently obtained this pocket knife in a group of five pocket knives that I purchased. I did NOT buy the lot to get this particular knife. It is a single blade, 3 3/4" closed, 6 7/8" open, all metal, lockback pocket knife. It is stamped STAINLESS on the handle. It is stamped SOLINGEN on the bottom. It has two tang stamps. One tang stamp says STAINLESS and the other tang stamp is the "EYE" logo (with NO wording). It actually looks just like a smaller version of the MERCATOR K55ꓘ and similar pattern/style pocket knives. I'm not positive that this is a legitimate "EYE BRAND." I'm not 100% sure of the country of origin for this pocket knife. I'm hoping it's GERMANY, but if it's JAPAN, that's ok too. It's in GREAT condition, well made and required no cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
I think it is a legitimate Eye Brand knife made in Solingen. It could be a contract knife made by Mercator for Schlieper.

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
Thank you Roland.
I was leaning towards it being legit.
Either way, it's still a nice piece of cutlery.

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
Believe KJ has it nailed. Classic Mercator type knife. Not a typical pattern in the Schlieper lineage of cutlery. Interesting find, though. Most Mercator knives that I have seen or owned were definitely not stainless. A good one to pique more interest.

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
New to the forum. Could anyone help provide an age for this German Eye knife? Thanks.
Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
I have a question that I hope someone on the forum can answer. I have two Olsen jumbo swing guard folders
. I have seen the identical knife marked Carl Schlieper over the years. Was this a contract knife made by Schlieper, or did Olsen of Gemany make these for Carl Schlieper?- Paladin

Re: Lets See Your Schlieper Knives
Let's see if I can sort this out for response.... The brass multi-blade dates from the 1950s to the early 1970s using the tang stamp. This stamp was used again later but I believe this one is from the earlier time frame.
The Olsens were almost surely made by Schlieper. The ones I have owned had too many similarities not to have been made by Schlieper.
