Stagmania

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Another 5207; one of the very few Case mini trappers I own, or have ever seen for that matter, that hasn't had all the bark & character mostly hafted away.

Love the rough stag on that one Q. It reminded me of one of my 5507 5 blade mini trappers pictured below with similar stag. Also added the red stag version to fulfill your mini-trapper fix for the day.

I had time to clean this up and oil it, and I'm kind of lukewarm on the knife. I really like the stag, although it is shaved a lot at the sides and not perfectly matched- the back is a lot nicer than the front. The blades are good and sharp, but they aren't all centered perfectly. And they seem kind of thin. That is good for the weight of the knife, but I would be afraid to break a tip if I really worked it hard. They pull is impossibly stiff and the nail nicks are so tiny, i have to use folded paper to open it. That means it has to sit in a case, not get taken out.

There is no way I would be able to actually carry and use this knife. It's purely for show, which isn't really my thing. My interest in knives is as well designed tools, not bling and surface prettiness. Are all Cases this lightweight and resistant to everyday use, or is it just this special anniversary one? I'm used to old school Buck knives, and they are solid and perfectly functional every time. I know Case has a lot of models. Are there any that would be better for me? My preference is for large Stockmans with black or natural color handles.

Mahalo John & Garry. :)

The Monkey seems to be fixated on and obsessed with stag lately (by which I mean...since forever, but even more so now)...and not only Case Mini Trappers, either. Nevertheless, since this thread is supposed to be exclusively for showing Case stag...here's The Monkey's latest Stag snag: another 5207. ::nod::
