2022 Vault Release

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

I bought at least a dozen 09's, perhaps a few more, when they were recently released from the vault.

I believe that there was a time when the 09 probably didn't sell all that well. I also believe that that issue is in the past. I believe the Barlow would certainly hold its own with the other traditional patterns that Case keeps in the line-up and that I referenced in my original post, and that it ought to be brought back as a permanent item.

Just my two cents... I have no expectations of anything changing.

I probably couldn't afford it anyways but I'll ask anyways. Do you guys think they'll make these with Stag handles? ::hmm:: I could start saving up and prepping for approval from the boss lady. ::nod:: ::super_happy::

Buying a dozen certainly is voting with your wallet. I thought I squandered too much buying five **49s. Locally the only stores that stock Case knives for traditional slip joints sell only 44, 18, and 47 Stockmans and 07 and 54 Trappers. Among them the best seller by far is the yellow Delrin 54 Trapper. I don't recall any new Chinese or Parker Barlows being displayed either. I bought my pair of 5209s pre-owned in a pawn & gun shop. While I'll keep them forever I did not feel a need for more **09s during their vault release. Maybe you were the smarter man.

Not smarter, just knew that once they went back into the vault that that was going to be it for a very long while.

I think Bear and Son is the only US maker who still regularly produces a Barlow, correct? I know Utica discontinued their version a few years back when they primarily moved to SFOs.

I argue the Barlow is a classic and an original pattern and should be maintained in the permanent line-up. ::td::
I believe it has to do with money. If their bread and butter is selling trappers, stockman, and muskrats, they probably won't put them in the vault.

I'm not suggesting that any pattern be placed in the vault. I'm suggesting that the Barlow be brought out of the vault and added to the permanent line-up.

Time to let the issue of the Barlow die here. It is what it is. I hadn't intended to hijack this post. Sorry.

Good choice.
The Copperhead only had 26 handle configs.

I think it will be worth a try--the handle seems meatier than a Peanut or other small pattern.

However, patterns like a Barlow or Copperhead are practical user knives. Didn't see much need in a Barlow as I had several from other makers, but the Copperhead is my perfect knife. I was hoping for an 88 this year, as the darn things are PRICEY!!!. I have a '76, but it's in pretty rough condition.

Agree - I had one once - seemed too wide for a knife that short to me. I like short knives to be thin - I'll pass ...

I hear you on the copperhead - from the historically & consistently high prices on the used market (even on late model ones), I don't think you're alone ... market dictates that pretty much everybody likes the copperhead, thus the prices. It's a great sized jack knife, just wish once in my lifetime I could get a deal on one - paying full price on late model Case's has never interested me ::dang:: ...

Thanks cudgee.. ::handshake:: I hope they dont sell out.. I think Case will make enough for ALL their dealers and I think these are are their standard line.. Usually the SFO for certain dealers are more likely to sell out.. ::hmm::
