Is my Daddy Barlow legit?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Is my Daddy Barlow legit?

Post by DoctorJ »

I’m trying to determine if this Barlow is an actual 1965-1969 Case knife. It came from my father’s estate. I guess what makes me suspicious is just how nice a condition it’s in for a knife that old. Then again, it’s not like it’s an extremely sought after model so why would anyone have tried to fake one? All I know is that he had several nice knives he collected over a period of about 40 years. Any opinions on this one are greatly appreciated.

Based only on your photos, it's looks good to me. And your concerns are the reason people collect clean Case knives in excellent condition. It's wonderful when you can find an older one that looks that good.

This is one of mine, an original "Dot-Era" 32 made in 1970. It's about as clean as you can get, and that's what I look for in older Case knives. It also must be in near perfect working order.

Here's one I have. One era earlier, but I don't think they've changed since they started making them.

I see nothing wrong with the knife - it's a beauty! And even more special that it was your father's.
