Case Classic 1993 Really Worth $500?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case Classic 1993 Really Worth $500?

Post by herbva »

I really like sowbelly knives, but I'm just curious. Is a Case classic made in 1993, (by, I believe Bluegrass), really worth $500?

Gilbert Cooper seems to think so (he's the seller), but so far nobody else does. I thought all the Case Classics were made by Queen. ::shrug::

Case may have made a few of them.

Queen made all except the 88 congress, 54 trapper, saddlehorn and gunboat. Case made those four patterns only.

Ferg, he was right, at least on the part about the PST’s made in Japan being rare. Here’s a thread about it viewtopic.php?f=2&t=58485#p669203

According to info in that thread about 350,000 out of over 10 million PSTs made were made in Japan. I wouldn’t call 350,000 rare but relative to 10 million total made, I guess it is. I don’t know if it’s $250 rare or not, but I hope so cuz the PST I have was made in Japan!

BTW if you scroll down far enough in that old thread you’ll find one of your posts there!

It isn't worth $500 to me. No knife is.

If someone is willing to pay $500 for it, then it's worth that to them. That doesn't mean that all knives of that particular make and model are worth that amount, only that one, to that buyer, at that time.

It's easy to say that a particular knife is "worth" a particular price because one sold on an auction site for that price but that's not necessarily so (although it can be). It's usually a bit more complicated than that.

IIRC there’s a post here somewhere saying the Case Classic XXX Saddlehorn was made at the Case factory. Makes sense to me - if they made the other Case Classic saddlehorn patterns there, why would they make the few XXX stamped versions elsewhere?
